Also if you only have room for a UT60 with single fan for example, you would get better performance by going down one size to XT45 in push/pull.

Same thing with the Monsta. Thick rads really struggle at low speed as the slow turning fans can't get enough pressure to push the air throught the thick fins. So go push/pull on your Monsta. If you dont't have the room, go down to the UT60 in push/pull.

Here you can see the UT60 getting outperformed by it's half as thick baby brothers XT45 and ST30. The reason is that slow speed weakness of fans not getting enough static pressure for thick rads. This can be compensated by going push/pull on your thicker rads.

so after looking around, people say alpahacool is the best? after looking at the names it makes sense now lol, that says the thickness in them. i would put a monsta push pull or ut60 push pull in the front, a st30 240 in the top a ut60 push pull in the back? and one 120 in the bottom depending what i can work with and my cables. like a xt45 or st30 there.

any objections? hahahaha biggrin.gif

Water cooling ram is so pointless. It just adds restriction to the loop with zero gains in the end. I also think water cooled ram doesnt make it look any better. Ive been a fan of the XSPC RX and Alpha NexXxos radiators for a long time. Im going to be upgrading my loop with Alphacool NexXxos rads soon.

Well, as I demonstrated eaier, thick rads suffer at low speed because tbe slower fans have problems devellopping enought pressure to push the air throught the thick fins. Slim rads don't have that problem.

So I think a push/pull setup is increasingly beneficial as rad thickness increases.

I'd be willing to bet the Monsta would benefit more from push/pull than the ST30 would because a single set of fans is more easily able to push the air throught the slimner rad.

With thicker rads though the fins aren't that close together compared to thinner rads, so the fans dont have to work as hard to get air through a dense fin array.

Fan choice will still be important. The SR-1 rads (9fpi) work fine with regular fans, but the GTX's (20 fpi) need higher pressure fans.
The Alphacool's look really nice with all the port options - that is a sweet feature.

Well, both the ST30 and it's 100% thicker brother the UT60 have the same FPI count of 10.
Yet, at speeds below 1000 rpm, the ST30 performs slightly better than the 100% thicker UT60.

The only difference between those two rads is their thickness. They have the same maker, same built, same FPI, same everything, but their thickness.

I'm afraid I am going to have to agree with this. Martin's work on this aspect was quite conclusive to me. Push/Pull is definitely worth it.
