[Build Log] Zaytsev - The white Switch - *UPDATE 27/04/14* - Page 3

Sorry for the late update... I was busy last weekend and this week to. On top of that, I had many bug to fix with my fan controler that I will explain later.

First of all, I thought that my 4 pin molex extension will be visible from the windows and I hate the idea of seeing a red/black/yellow cable after I work hard to sleeve all the other cable. The solution was simple, sleeve the molex power!

That was and easy fix.

Next, I wanted to fix the rpm for my lamptron FC5. I think about an hour and end with that solution

I though that was a good idea but if you can see... I wanted to take the tach from ONLY one fan. They way I solder my tach cable, I take the tach from the fan #1 (lets say it is the #1) and bring it to the controler. Silly me, all the tach are connected in parallels. If I connect that way, I will still get all the mix tach and I still get silly reading. I fix it later.

I did test it, I thought that it was ok and I continue.

I start to build the loop. I was so exited! I start with the pump to rad and rad to cpu block because I had to do it that way.... more simple.

(sorry for the blurry pic :S)

Is it beautifuf? tongue.gif

Now, what is this? Is it a mini 4 pins molex (I dont know the name but I know that was used to power a floppy drive) but what it is doing here. It is hanging at the end of my molex strip. Could I cut it? NO. I need that little bastard. But why? Because my silly sound card need it power for that old thing.

After that picture, that cable was resleeve with Shade 19 and it look ok.

From now, I have forgot to take picture. But I have fix the tach from my homemade 6 to 1 fan connector and my 4 to 1 that you didn't see because it was from my old build.

I have finally bleed my loop (still have some bubble but the computer is usable).

Here is the almost final product. I just need to put the panel on. I have one last thing to do but I always forgot what it is redface.gif.

Now, I say earlier that I had do something to fix my tach. Here was my solution :

What I have done is I made a small extension for my 3 pins. I have simply take the tach from fan #1 without connecting it to the little circuit board and connect it to my extension that go directly to the fan controller. That way, I have isolated the tach from all the other tach on the circuit board.

I did the same thing for my homemade 6 to 1 connector

It is harder to see since I have put some electical tape to avoid short.

I will find what I forgot to do.... HAAA I remember!!!! I have few cathode to install but I want a switch to turn them on and off. I was thinking about 2 white cathode on one switch and one UV (for show off... people love UV and my tube are UV reactive) on an other switch. I still need to buy 2 little switch. I think I will install it on a pci bracket on that back of the case.

Finally, a note to every one who have a Switch 810, the power for the led on the back of the motherboard is carry by a SATA POWER, not a molex... fortunately, I had a sata power to molex.

Thanks for watching

Yes, I will but I'm waiting for the next generation to watercool. I will wait for the review but I would love to try Nvidia. I was looking to the Titan with an Alphacool GPU block but I have hard time justifying the price. Also, since I have 3*1080p, I think I will go for the Nvidia GPU that will be aroud 500-650$ and SLI / watercool them.

Ok, if someone is still following my build log or watching some update I have done, here a new info. This build isn't completed yet!!!

I'm currently following the news about the new AMD card series (aka the Radeon HD 9000 or Radeon R-9xx or something like that) and I'm planning to buy to of the high end card. They will be put under water, off course. I'm also planning to change my reservoir since I'm not please with it. I'm thinking about few thing like that :

Pump top :
Pump adapter for D5 pumps, compatible with aqualis, G1/4

Reservoir :
Aqualis base for Aquacomputer pump adapters 450 ml

Why this combo, I like the Pyrex (borosilicate) tube as it will have a better resistance to scratch. It also look like to be some quality part, I believe. Add to that some Coollaboratory Pro thermal paste to get a nice temperature, and call it done. I will maybe delide my CPU since it is overheating a little bit and I can really fold on it (don't want to risk it to much).

But that isn't all, I'm looking to switch my tubing to hard piping. Looking to something like copper tubing with a chrome plating or similar.

And to add a little cherry on the top of it, I will maybe switch my PSU for a this

PSU :
NZXT HALE90 V2 NP-1GM-1000A 1000W

Why I absolutly want to upgrade my gpu? I look at some benchmark of the 6950 and in 3D marks, it should do around 5000 pts, mine does 3500 with some overclock. I don't understand why but it look like it is losing performance somewhere.

So, you will see some nice little update in the next 2-3 month wink.gif

Also, I was forgetting something REALLY important.

First, one reason why I don't want to keep the bay reservoir, maybe it can help few people to make a decision about bay vs tube reservoir. It isn't really loud at max speed of the pump, so that isn't an issue. It also isn't ugly at all, I think it fit well in the front of my white switch. It is more because of the tubing routing I had to do. It isn't pretty IMO. To add an other point, I think tube reservoir are more appealing than bay reservoir. Finally, for a piece de résistance, I will definitely going to get one of these when he will finish his project. I let him time, I'm not in a hurry to upgrade because, hey, look, I have a working PC tongue.gif.

Special awesome uber-to-cool-for-me item :
Custom Fan Controller Build
A big thanks to jvjessen who is doing a godly work on that thing.

Second, I will try something. I will add some plexiglass inside (like to cover the 5.25 + HDD bay cover with white painted aluminium. Add to that some led strip to do a glowing effect and you get an awesome lightning effect. I will be able to control the color with the custom fan controler. I will do some magic wink.gif. I also thing to "double" the lower front panel (where I have 2 fan) with the same idea. I will only need some thin plexiglass to not obstruct the same area I have for airflow.

Finally, I just want to say that doing awesome build like that isn't hard at all. You don't need mad skill. You just need to take you time and do little by little. This build is something like 2 years old. I have put some money here and here and this is where I'm now. During the lan party, people where talking behind me while I was gaming and they said : (translated tongue.gif) "I though that you (talking to his friend) had a huge tower, but it is nothing compare to this one. It look really awesome man." . It was my second participation to this event and next winter, I will help in the organization. I'm planning to try to add a new competition, not a gaming one but a benchmark competition. It may help to gather more people, a different kind wink.gif. Maybe I will find some ocn member tongue.gif.

I'm in love with my computer/computer science (sorry girlfriends XD) and I'm not even a good gamer...

Well, this because a continuous upgrade build log thing. I hope people who are following are enjoying!

Ok, now, I have a plan, a not bad plan with somehow higher chance to happen that the watercooling of my 6950 and crossfire it. What I want to do now, like before and during christmas is this :

Stage 1 :

  • AMD Radeon R9 290 x2

Stage 2 :

  • Aquacomputer kryographics Hawaii for Radeon R9 290 acrylic glass edition
  • Primochill Acrylic Tubing
  • Aquacomputer Aqualis base for pump adapters 450 ml with nano coating
  • Aquacomputer Pump adapter for D5 pumps, compatible with aqualis base
  • Aquacomputer kryoconnect kit for kryographics, width 4 slots for 2 graphics cards
  • Primochill Rigid Revolver Compression Fitting 3/8" x 1/2" Diamond Knurled 4 - Anodized White
  • Few other thing to get a filling and draining port and other thing.

Stage "would be cool"

  • Alphacool NexXxoS UT60 Full Copper 420mm
  • Noiseblocker NB-BlackSilent PRO-PK3 - 140 mm x6

Why Stage 1 :

I got a short talk with people on the last Friday gaming night or whatever the name I don't remember and they clear something on my head, why get a 120$ more expensive card like a R9 290x while it perform only few % less. And since they will be overclock, I will be able to save some $$$ and maybe help to go on the Stage "would be cool".

Why Stage 2 :

I what to do something that go out from what people are use to see. Even if acrylic solid tubing becoming more popular, here, where I am, where I go with my computer, I'm always the top of the game. No one have a custom watercooling system and they probably never view a thing like that. I like to be proud of what I'm doing. Also, it look like Aquacomputer is a pain to find in Canada so it will be kinda "unique" or rare thing. Switching to a tube reservoir is a thing I want to do for a while, even more now that I have read somewhere on OCN that they aren't well design and I can see the flaw, the water didn't move in the reservoir (in mine), it just pass through the little channel and go back to the pump, not good to keep a clean water. Also, droping the silver of something better, still have to find.

Why Stage "would be cool" :

If I got the ball to get my computer more silence (a little bit) because I make a bad decision last upgrade, the radiation that I bought was a High Density one. I was thing that would be nice, more surface, more cooling more everything! But also more noise for the fan and air, lowering the fan, lowering the cooling, hating my life... not really, learning by mistake. If I success to sell it to my friend who want to go under water to (my fault :P), I will try to sell him these following parts : Koolance radiation because to high fin density, 6 Corsair SP fans and a fan controller maybe for something like 50-60$ for the rad, 10$/fan and something for the fan controller (only if he ask for it, I want somehow to keep it but.... will have a new toy one day ;) ).

For now, I have hide you something, I already got a pre-update. I was needing to change few thing on my computer to allow me to do that upgrade. So, here the picture and I will lets you wondering the difference :

Hope you enjoy and stay tune for the upgrade :P

Ninja edit :m For the kill a watt, that is while folding with and old computer working as a server (around 75w)
