[NEED ADVICE] upgrade old laptop or invest in a new one?

HELP OCN!

so my laptop is pretty old (prob 5+ years old) and its starting to really suck. somtimes it'll boot up slow, it'll browse the net super slow and it cant even play games on it anymore (before i coudl play l4d2 on it, now the video lags so bad when i play)

my gf has the same problem, so i thought about asking the experts on this lovely forum.

QUESTION 1:
is it worth it to spend the money to upgrade RAM on an old laptop?
OR
is it better to just invest in a new laptop?

QUESTION 2
other than RAM, is there anything else that you can upgrade a laptop on? (i know GPUs are integrated into mobo, so it would be silly to upgrade that cuz you'd just have to get a new mobo)

THANKS A BUNCH OCN

PS - my gf's laptop cant even play fb games anymore; she says it lags too much

You can likely upgrade the ram but that probably won't make any difference. Processor power is the problem, and gpu. Majority of those on laptops are soldered in. Replacement is best choice, almost only choice really IMO. 5+ years is a long time in computer hardware, even longer on laptops I think.

Great, thanks for the reply.
That's what I kind of figured about laptops - not really meant for upgrades - but I though I'd throw it out there just in case.

Can you post your laptop specs and your gf laptop specs?
We can't make a judgement if it is worth upgrading your laptop or invest on a new one.
Then against it depend what you want to do with the laptop. If you want a laptop just for words, browsing, emails, Facebook, twitters, YouTube movies, and light tasks. Then you just upgrade the ram and pretty much be done with it. If the ram is like 1GB or 2GB then it is worth invest on a new laptop otherwise you'll be lagging unless you use Linux OS.

If you want to do gaming then it is definitely hands down buying a new laptop no question asking why, lol.

If you want to invest on a new laptop, I would suggest Lenovo or HP.
HP, you can get the A8/A10 crossfire with 7670 GPU then you got a decent gaming budget laptop.

If you want to use intel CPU then I would suggest lenovo because they make a really good qualities for non-gaming and gaming laptops. I would say i5 or i7 plus a NVIDIA video card.
You can try Lenovo Outlet to save a lot of money. Try to go to Lenovo Y-Series and find which you like.

Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention. If you are going to invest on a new laptop then I would suggest you post your budget.
