Im sorry to inform you this but.. AMD is going to discontinue 939 sockets, so go with AM2 if you still don't believe in Intel.

I used to love AMD too. But after C2D, everything changed. Let me show you the difference in power.

I am at 2.6 with opty 165 (can be overclocked to 3.0 but thats about it) and i can only produce about 11k points MAX for folding per month. With daily usage and gaming, i only get about 9k per month. On the other hand, my teammate Franken PC can pump out 18k per month. His computer is dedicated and overclocked well with watercooling but that difference gap is just too huge to not consider yourself a C2D.

I am not sure if my comment is 100% reliable but E6300 should be able to outperform or match X2 3800 overclocked. When E6300 is overclocked, there is no contrast between two.

If you want AMD and its 90nm tech, at least go with AM2 (but AM3 will be released next year i think). 939 is dead technology in 6 month. the production will stop this winter. If you change your mind and wish not to regret not getting an Conroe like me, get C2D.

Please correct me if i am wrong.

Happy december, it is good enough reason to celebrate

Well AM2 Is a joke Upgrade IMO.

The Only benefit is DDR2...Not much of an upgrade.

The Upgrade you have selected above is not bad at all and is a Dual Core. You will have plenty of fun with that setup and I would go for it an Ignore AM2.

939 iS DYING yes but doesnt mean it isnt good.

I just regret getting 939 instead of C2D. Makes me sad to see such power gap. you will probably agree on the C2D is more powerful than most 939's.

Just suggesting to look toward something more powerful.

Its christmas season, everyone needs the best they deserve

I'm not complaining with my S939 rig. It's a great performer still and I find it more entertaining to OC than an Intel. Hell, its just a little to easy to get 3Ghz compared to an AMD! Maybe its just me but 3Ghz on an AMD sounds cooler than an C2D. Chaogod, you from Berkeley?
