A little help/advise for a noob with an i5 3570k overclocking - Page 4

An average 212 will reduce temps by about 12-17C, over that and you problably have a very good and lucky 212

I reduced my vcore from 1.2 to 1.12 to see if could get away with slightly lower volts and temps. Ran P95 Small FFT test and after about 5 mins got a blue screen advising one core wasnt repsonding in time.

Reset then went back to BIOS and manually altered back to 1.2 vcore. Re-run P95 and seems to be running fine 80c max temp and 15mins in with all test ok so far. I know you need and really good run in P95 but im doing this now to quickly test the stability.

I notice my vcore reading in CPU-Z is 1.14 not the 1.20 i manually entered. Why is this?

Is there anything else in BIOS i should be adjusting. Ive set BCLK @ 100 and Core multipliers of 42 =4200ghz

Ive not touched anything else. Is there something more i need to look at?

No. Unfortunately it sounds like, with your board and CPU and your cooler AND with the way you mounted it,

you are getting extremely high temps, running @ 1.14 @ 4.????? ghz.

How fast are you running it? On stock cooler right? Then that's normal. Stock cooler wouldn't be able to a lot of heat quickly, its so small!

CPUZ is right. Your actual voltage is affected by more than just what you enter in BIOS. LLC adjusts it during load and idle, to keep it more stable under certain conditions. You'll have to research LLC to understand it, I don't have any links off the top of my head at the moment.

So right now, CPU-Z and, I'd recommend HWInfo as better since you can double click it and have a graph, it records max and min values for all monitored values (like vcore)

i think on Asus mobo's the best LLC setting to start with is 75% smile.gif
have to try it, and see what it gives you then..
it gives a slight vdroop, but sometimes software readings (cpu-z) can be a bit of too...lol

Isnt 80c during a stress test with a standard Intel cooler about right ?

I get 30c during idle and 60-65 when gaming.

Ive stopped P95 now and it ran for 25mins no issues upto that point. Now idling at 1.2vcore

Were do i adjust LLC in BIOS...couldent find it.

Yeah thats normal temps for that stock cooler, the ivy bridges run hotter but have a higher threshold of max temp (105c)

It's on the AI Tweaker page, under the Digi+VRM submenu - called CPU Loadline Calibration. I'd set Medium or High, but if you change it you will probably have to also change your CPU voltage (since it won't be dropping as much under load). So if you are stable at 1.14V under load (with 1.2V set in the BIOS) as you increase LLC it'll allow you to lower the BIOS voltage while keeping the same load voltage. So you might be able to go down to 1.15V in the BIOS.

Set LLC to High

And adjusted voltage down to 1.15

Running P95 and under load 79c temp with 1.136 vcore. So only dropping off very slightly now.

Is this better obviously if it remains ok in P95?
