He's living vicariously through you & trying to build a dream rig with your $.
He can be right although not with the right reasons. 3770k is a better cpu, but if you have no use for the extra threads it's just more money. Same for the mobo, don't know what you have or what he suggested but his suggestion might be better for an ln2 cooled rig or raid array monster (again probably useless to you).

Not sure what he is talking about with gpus, many prefer a single gpu but 2 x cards is pretty much always better fps.

As long as you're happy with the build that's what matters. When he says 'No, you need this in there" tell him great, go buy one & I'll try it (as in buy with his money biggrin.gif ).

After going through this entire post, I found that this is the almost the best setup, only a few things that don't need to be there or changed IMOxD

I believe this was suggested by ADHDadditiv thumb.gif
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/AQXi

-You only need 8GB of RAM, so minus one of those kits
-The H100i/H80i would be much better and look better. There have been some problems of late but since you will be buying a newer one it should have been taken care of.
-If you really don't want to mess with WC, then CM 212 EVO has been a nice choice for a lot of people, or a Noctua cooler, since you already have some fans.
-I like the MSI models but EVGA is good as well
-I rather see you go with a better named psu [850w would be great for you]: Corsair, XFX, SeaSonic, PC Power & Cooling, NZXT and SilverStone

-If you live near a MicroCenter or have a good friend that does, you can always save a decent amount on the cpu/mb combo.
-Techbargains.com has always has things on sale but they don't last long

I hope this helps and good luck with your build

Also, no offense, but your friend doesn't sound like he knows very much about computers, sorry.

There is next to no noticeable difference between the i5-3570k and the i7-3770k unless your rendering. If anything, you lose a few FPS because of the hyperthreading. DO NOT PLEASE YOUR FRIEND PLEASE GOD! ITS YOUR RIG NOT HIS/HERS!

He does only need 8gb of ram, but with his budget who the hell cares biggrin.gif
The Sparkle is a fantastic power supply brand, its better known as SPI but it is a name brand that is up there with Seasonic and Corsair.
And his friend is an idiot.
