No need to be rude! My X-1250 is noisy and apparently faulty, your 1000W Platinum is fine for you, which is good.

Just thought i would chime in...

I had a seasonic x-1050 and it was also pretty noisy! On normal mode it was the loudest component in my rig, on hybrid mode it will ramp up the fan speed intermittently which IMO is really goddamn annoying. I returned it to SCAN who informed me "no fault found"... I asked them for a full refund because these things should not be noisier than my 3 year old noisy 5850 with the fan bearing wearing out.

I may try an antec because if this is standard behavior from these partially "fanless" models i would rather have a fan on at a very low RPM all the time. My old cooler master silent pro 600w was fantastic! Very quiet and it cost less than half of that x-1050.

I also found removing the grill would silence the noise, in fact replacing it with a standard fan grill largely eliminates any noise. The honeycomb pattern certainly does nothing to enhance this PSU's acoustics.

I have 4 of these power supplies and they seem to run fine. They are silent.

Don't forget, some users think that Corsair AX1200 (not "i") is silent, but look here:

I had it, but only for 15 mins tongue.gif Unfortunately I bought it before I saw it. More than 1200 rpm at low loads mad.gif

And again AX1200i:

Same funs, different control algorithm.

Now X-1250 Gold:

Maybe it was a bad device?

Cause it must be near to AX850:

And a quote from jonnyguru.com (the pictures above not from his site):

"Now, about the semi-fanless mode. Where did I see the fan start? In test one. The unit would only run the low load test in fanless mode - the fan kicked on as soon as test one got going. Actually, I kind of prefer it that way. You don't want units this size getting that hot, even at low loads. Extreme heat cycling from jumping from a low load to a high load every time you fire up SLI is kind of hard on parts. Seasonic? Change not a thing on the fan controller. Those who want silence aren't often shopping for 1250W units anyway. And at no time could I hear the fan over the screamers in the load testers, so it's not really a loud power supply anyway."

It depends from our water cooling setup whistle.gif (if it big and cool, it will be near to silent even under stress tests rolleyes.gif)

Now i'm glad that bought not X-1250 but Platimax 1500 - after changing its fan to Kama Flex SA1325FDB12H (max ~1600 rpm and original fan was 900-2000 rpm), it's pretty silent now for 1,5 kW (but still not ideal - better only two PSU's).

Willhemmens,

Are you located in the UK? Do you wish to start a RMA? If so, please contact support@seasoniceu.com.

Or you can just provide to me the serial number and personal details and we will sort this out for you.

We have an office in the UK to where you can send the unit.

Hi, the person I bought it from says he got it directly from yourselves, he assured me it had no warranty so asked me to send it back to him. It hasn't actually been sent back yet. I'll PM you the Serial number.

Thanks for the serial number, I have checked it against our RMA files and it was not delivered by us to the person from where you made the purchase. As well, we do not sell directly to end consumers but we do provide RMA service direct to end consumers.

We provide warranty service on all our power supplies so it would be strange for the seller to tell you there is no warranty considering that would be a selling point for him to help him sell the unit to you. And if unit is faulty, then it would be in his interest to inform you to contact us directly so it will be less work and zero responsibility for him.

Please send a mail to support@seasoniceu.com to start the RMA procedure. You will receive a RMA form to fill in, return it and we will take care of the rest.

Thank you.

UPDATE!

Seasonic very kindly sent a new X-1250 so I could send the old one back in that box.

The new unit is unfortunately still running it's fan at low load still. The box says worst case it will run at is 187.5W (15%) load. Yet the fan runs when the PSU is drawing 104W from the wall. This is roughly 88W of load when you calculate it's about 85% efficient at such a low load.

So I'm pulling under half of the worst case load and it's running all of the time.

Ambient is roughly 15C which is again 10C below the 25C they say on the box.

One positive is that the fan does appear to be quieter atleast but is still quite audible to my ears which is a great shame since I like my systems as near silent as possible.

Perhaps Seasonic should make their boxes more accurate/truthful.

Yeah these things have rather aggressive fan control.

The problem lies with the fan grill though, replace it with one of these:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/120mm-Classic-Fan-Grill-Black/dp/B004234JE4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1362797015&sr=8-2

It will be much quieter. Alternatively ditch it and get something else, i went with an HCP 1200 and it is far far quieter than the seasonic x1050 i had.
