I do not have abnormally big ears, besides, the issue isn't with my ears, it's the lies on the side of the PSU box.

The problem lies with the fan grill though, replace it with one of these:

It will be much quieter. Alternatively ditch it and get something else, i went with an HCP 1200 and it is far far quieter than the seasonic x1050 i had.

I did note it was quieter without the grill on the old one. Think it would be best to sell it on.

Don't know if it maters but I have heard folks say that the AX 1200 is made by Seasonic, while the smaller AX series PSU's are it apears that the 1200 is not. http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/psu_manufacturers. Just FYI

Another update on the situation, the replacement X-1250 is still noisy and doesn't turn off it's fan at all. Interestingly after some discussion "Walter" from Seasonic or "Sea Sonic Rep" on here has confirmed that these units may have unstable fan control. It appears that some units may be affected whilst other not as he said they checked the serials to see if it was affected or not.

They have offered to replace the X-1250 with a P-1000 which would hopefully to a better job but unfortunately they're not willing to send the replacement first and I cannot afford the down time.

It appears I am stuck with a noisy X-1250 until it's sold and replaced with something better.

Our service center had to wait a very long time for the return of the first replacement and therefore they have their concerns that they will again, have to wait a very long time for this return. The service center is responsible for the inventory so if they do not get the RMA unit back, then it is a cost to them.

I have, per e-mail, provided to you an option, which is to provide to us a copy of your ID and credit card and agree that if the RMA unit is not returned in a timely manner, then you will be charged for the P1000. I think this is a fair solution.

As well, per information you have provided in this thread, you have other PSUs on hand so maybe you can use one of those units during the "down time"?

I have same problem too but not loud.
The fan always spinning on either modes on idle, I used power supply starter kit to test, fan still spinning. http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=22_101&products_id=3163
Then I unplugged everything, waited few minutes and turned the switch back to Hybrid mode. The fan started spinning for seconds then stopped. So I guess it works that way? (because I was on Normal mode from the day I received and used since). I'm not sure if the fan is spinning (Hybrid mode now) because I put the PS fan face down now. LOL. I didn't notice any noise though.

But PSU is good (and big tongue.gif) and pretty quiet:

wait so the 1200i also has the same problem? oh man, you know im running a old gpu with it, 8800 gt lol i guess thats why i havent heard anything still scary though because i plan to get my new gpu soon

I had 1200i. It's good and quiet at medium loads (700-800 watts, lol smile.gif). But at 1200 watts (up to 1200 RPM) it's just normal. But I can't to say anything about reliability of this fan, except - this fan is not the best (e.g. KAMA Flex, S-Flex etc. are much, much better).
I sold this PSU only bcause it was not powerful enough for my system. Looks like this PSU is too smart and have only 1200 watts, not like 1200 (without i), that have more power. But most of the time 1200i's fan will have 0 RPM, it's good.
