680 Classified & Skyrim Framerate - Page 2

Thread Starter
I managed to figure it out last night, it all began with the idea of trying to narrow in on what might the problem be, so i compared 3dmark11 scores with different clocks with different timings.

For example 3300 mhz with 11-11-11-28-1t vs 3300mhz with 8-8-8-24-2t vs 3700 & 4400 etc etc. Comparing that with other peoples scores in which i might be scoring higher on the cpu end and
they on the gpu end.

But i found a thread online about low 3dmark scores, and this cat went into msconfig and unchecked a cpu option in the advanced options.

That did not work for me, then it came to me, people talk as to how programs & etc can inhibit performance.

Well there is a services tab in msconfig (system configuration), so just to see if anything improves i disabled all services and rebooted.

Now i didn't have audio or internet and some wouldn't work, but then i boot up The Witcher with Fraps running and low & behold i was no longer getting 40-50 fps with dips in the 20s-30s,
i was getting 60 FPS consistenly even with 8x TRSSA in interiors & exteriors.

I could not believe it, still can't really.

Then i went back to msconfig enabled everything and the problem returned.

So to narrow it down i decided to uncheck services by 3s down the list until the performance returned and narrow it down to Marvell Storage Management Service, it was this
that caused so much of a performance loss.

Don't ask me how, maybe someone might enlighten me as to might why, once i disabled it my score in 3dmark11 went from 7800 to 10000 as seen here,

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/5845665
http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/5845762

Skyrim with ultra settings and the highest nvidia settings i was getting consistent 60 fps.

Literally blows my mind how something like that, that is like hidden away a program could cause such.

It was sure luck i feel, a shot in the dark, to be honest, i am getting my 7970 back today (which now i know nothing was wrong with it, but surprisingly they replaced it) and
was gonna swap it out with the 680 classified i just bought to see if i could figure the problem and if that didn't work, i was contemplating on buying a new mobo, psu, cpu, and ram.

Sigh, i figured it would have not been simple like to this, to be honest, i am still surprised by it.

@ N0S3LFESTEEM, i apologize if i come off as arrogant, but i tried reinstalling the OS that along with stabilizing everything again for this issue and to no avail, so i preferred not to do that.

By the way, what in the world is link-layer topology discovery mapper?

I saw that in the services tab in msconfig, and thought to myself is that even necessary?

It more than likely is, but i have no idea what it is or does, most things in the services tab though i have no idea as to what they do.
