Just recieved MSI Twin Frozr III 7950..... "Boost Edition"??????? - Page 2

okai so i overclocked it to core clock 1150mhz and memory 1500mhz at stock voltage. without even trying but the card hit 84c on load and idles at 38c but remember to set custom fan map in afterburner. also remember that kombustion and furmark over test ur gpu so playing games will never push ur gpu to benchmark performance.

Set the fan higher if you haven't already. I run mine at steady 60%.

I just picked up a second one of these cards and the first one was a 7970 PCB, the second was also 7970 PCB with the 6 + 8 pin power but was also a boost card. I have also noticed that these cards have a bios switch. One of the two bios' on both cards seem to have a higher voltage than the other. Either way I have been able to hit 1100 core on both with either bios. I'm gonna do some more checking when I come home and see if they can be pushed further with more voltage tweaking or by switching the bios over to #1 on both cards which seems to be higher voltage.

Both of the 7950 TFs I had are 6+6 pin with BIOS switch, 960mhz default clock.

Its hard to see with the stock HSF on it but its just a little to the right of the crossfire pins when its installed in a standard ATX case.

Ok great thank you so much!! I will definetly post my results when I get everything up and running. So a little off topic, but a quick question in itself, I'm getting two Kingston HyperX 3k 120GB SSD's and I was wondering if I should put them in RAID 0 or use them as seperate drives? I'm going to be installing windows 7, Skyrim w/ a ton of mods, Far Cry 3, and Mass Effect 3 on it.

I guess it would depend on if you want everything to appear on one drive or as it normally would on two separate disks. I run my two 256GB SSD's as two separate drives. You will see an increase in read/write times though if you run them in RAID 0. For me as a windows boot drive and gaming the speed of my SSD without being in RAID 0 is enough to outweigh the risks of data corruption with RAID.

Data corruption??? My godd, those words make me quiver. So should I just grab one 256gb HyperX for now?

Don't let me scare you lol. Data problems aren't super common but if data integrity is a major concern over say a boost in speeds I'd go with one big drive. It is the safest way to do it but if your looking for really high read/writes RAID is the way to go.
