well why i'm asking is bu buddy made me a over of swapping for my 2x 6870 for his 1 x 7850 2gb will this be good or bad?

Personally I would prefer the 7850 but only you know the value of what you have invested in the cards. The 7850 2gb version crossfired would be much better for your 3 screens. They overclock really well apparently also

Going by this, it looks like your setup would be much better. Keep in mind, this is a single 6870, where you have 2. The 7850 is newer architecture and single GPUs are better than dual, but I don't think you really are going to gain anything in this swap.

edit: I realize now that I didn't put in the link to the benchmarks earlier when I posted this doh.gif

Is a 7850 a good card compared to the 2x6870 cross fire?

Will it also be better to cross fire 2x7850

No. Getting 7850 cfx would be doing the same pigeon hole as you are in now with 6870s, ie. buying into a dead end putting the memory size aside.

I would sell them and get a 7950 at a minimum. On three panels you'd want at least two 7950s, so starting off with one is a better route to go imo.

I agree with this post and echoes what I said earlier was that if money allowed then a 7950 would be the option. If money does not allow though I disagree with the 7850 especially in crossfire being in the same pidgeon hole. Less tdp, less heat in an air cooled system, double the vram and better performance. In a lot of games that scale with crossfire, ie the op plays bf3 the 2gb 7850 crossfire would be much better than the 1gb 6870 crossfire.

As with all hardware upgrades unless fortunate that money is not an object, or like in the US market that prices on the higher end tech is good, the best available is not always an option for everyone.

crossfire has next to no effect on eyefinity..those are one gig cards.. go to a better card or turn down your settings(going from xfire 6870s myself (my 6950 is in today cant wait to get home and enjoy the higher fps)
i find myself constantly hitting the vram capacity wall at 6XXXx1080 range in certain games *cough batman*cough gta4*

Once again thank you all for your input. It's a difficult decision mix scenarios and money is in my case a option. Need to plan and make sure if I swop it's the right choice. Pulling my hair out...

Your 6870's cannot power BF3 on 3 screens. I would say, just use 1 screen at 1080p and try medium settings.
Make sure CFX is enabled in CCC.

I'm in the same boat as you, CFX 6870's but only the one monitor. As for temps both idle around 30c and after playing DMC Devil May Cry for a while my cards hit 77C & 81C.

So why make a thread saying your having issues then, or have I missed a key post somewhere?
