It has quite a lot of bearing.

You'd like to make it sound as if he said it that way because he thinks he's doing you a favour.

If you actually read the whole article, you can see that is clearly not his intention or attitude throughout the interview, because you'll have better context to make your judgement.

I read the sourced article. There wasn't anything more I really got from it that wasn't stated in OP's post. Explain exactly how it was taken out of it's "proper context"? Not trying to sound like a jerk here or anything, just curious.

This quote pretty much sums it up. Visceral is making it sound like we should be praising them for something so basic that should be included in EVERY pc game. All I want are just some decent M+KB control and some graphics options.

No they aren't, the OP and his made up article title + dreadful formatting is just riling up gullible people who don't read the article or original source for proper context.

Quite frankly, reading the original article, both on CVG, and on Shacknews (who CVG sourced) doesn't make it any better. The gist of it is that the devs want the experience to be as similar as possible on whatever platform you play, which is admirable, but I don't see how that boils down to allowing the person to use a mouse and keyboard and citing that as a significant difference. The difference is more so the OS/platform itself, rather than the control scheme.

I'm saddened that developers, when commenting on their game, have to mention that PC games actually work on the platform.

Imagine if a developer said that some game (coming for console) supported wide screen TVs. Everyone would be like "lolwut", but when devs say that their port supports resolution options and M&KB no one is surprised.

The last two games were ports......where were the headlines? Did something special happen why number 3 all of a sudden can't be a successful port? Was there a prophecy where the third Dead Space game would end the world if it was a port?

And yes, playing with a mouse gives a different feel to playing with a controller....that's obvious....but when people are pitchforking out of nowhere due to headlines that suddenly matter to people it didn't matter to previously, maybe sometimes you have to explain things you thought were quite obvious?

Edit:
Would also be helpful if the OP was formatted properly without the obvious context warping suggestiveness........or the made up article title.......so that it doesn't look like the guy is boasting about allowing people to use a mouse and keyboard, when he's just elaborating on how using them gives a different feel that needs to be balanced.

Well the mods have fixed his post now and formatted it correctly.

The title of the thread before was "Dead Space 3 devs "allow" gamers to use a mouse and keyboard". So the only thing people got hung up on was maybe five words out of multiple paragraphs. Most probably didn't even read either source. But its fixed now.

First, ask yourself what the actual point of his statements were.

Was he literally trying to tell people to just be happy that the are being allowed to use a mouse and keyboard? No.

His whole point previous to making that statement was about the fact that people seem to have the impression that DS games on PC get no extra effort put into them and about giving a similar experience across platforms. So when he says
Quote:
The fact that we're allowing you to control the game with a mouse and keyboard immediately makes the game feel different

What part of that quote actually fits in with his actual previous point? Its the part at the very end. The part about making the game feel different.

The actual message he wanted to convey was how different control schemes can alter the game feel, but the way it was shown before gave the impression that all he was trying to say is that people should be happy they're being allowed to use a mouse and keyboard.

The only reason he has to comment on these things in the first place, is because people are making it into an issue for absolutely no reason.

The previous DS ports included res/aa/control customisation options etc, but for some reason people are rolling around on the floor kicking and flailing because this one is also a port.

If people weren't making these basics into a big deal, he wouldn't have to be there saying "yes......we do have the basics, just like the other ones did, what's the problem all of a sudden?".

Blame the people making money from clicks from purposely antagonising headlines, not the people who have to respond to them.

Arrogant...the consumers "allow you" to be making money as producer, not the other way around but w/e...

I can see why they want a similar experience though all platforms, but the truth is a PC user should get bigger textures - at least.
PC users sit 1-1.5x diagonal from their screen which usually is at least 1080p, and lately 2-3 times that (either surround or 1440p) - console gamers usually sit farther back, and have different expectations.

Games don't look identical ANYWAYS if you place xbox/ps3/pc side to side. It is reasonable to do your best for each platform to get the full effect, but not when one piece of hardware is half a decade or more ahead. And before someone writes about optimizations that allow consoles to do it better, that proves even more that PC get neglected.

Let's just call a spade a spade here: they didnt have the time or budget or maybe energy to offer a different experience for PC gamers. It seems to be as simple as that. Yes, I am making an assumption but oh well. I may or may not still play the game. I know that if I do, I won't want to talk about how "cool" the graphics are. I will wait for Crysis 3 to do that.

Welp.....looks like DS3 will be a steam sale purchase. Wont be buying until that $5-$10 range. Devs are so lazy for the money they make off of games.
