How to achieve 120Hz on Samsung S27A950DSL with EVGA GTX580 SC Edition ???

Hi Guys, i took the plunge and bought a Samsung S27A950DSL today.

I chosen this monitor because of its ability to do 120Hz display.

However, i realised i am now only able to do 60Hz at 1920 x 1080 resolution.

I am using the EVGA GTX580 SC Edition which comes with 2 dual-link DVI-D ports and 1 mini-HDMI port. The S27A950DSL comes with 1 dual-link DVI-D port, 1 HDMI port and 1 displayport.

I heard that the Samsung S27A950DSL is only able to do 120Hz via the Displayport. My EVGA GTX580 SC Edition does not have any displayport......so is there any adapter out there which i can buy to link up the displayport on my Samsung S27A950DSL with the dual-link DVI-D port/mini-HDMI port on my EVGA GTX580 SC????



If this is impossible, i think its time to break the bank for a GTX690 which do comes with a mini-displayport.

That would be a bummer if it can't do 120hz on dual-link DVI-D port.

Are you using a dual link dvi CABLE?

Let's just hope it comes with that specific cable (dual-link DVI-i or dual-link DVI-d).

Otherwise, cheaper I've seen;

Hi guys, i checked. The DVI cable that came with the Samsung S27A950DSL is the DVI-D (Dual link). However, with that pluck in, still can't achieve 120Hz.

Any idea what adaptor i need to purchase to enable 120Hz?

You need a display port. I have the same model and i can only achieve 120 hz with a display port cable

Now this tells me that the Samsung DVI port is only a single link? This sucks!

Hi All, I just found out why i am unable to achieve 120Hz thou with a dual link DVI-D cable.

The answer lies in the window display setting. I went to the window display setting and manually adjusted it to 120Hz refresh rate. After which, I double checked with the Samsung S28A950D control panel which indicated i am now running at 120Hz refresh rates.

Alternatively, if you are using Nvidia card, you can adjust the refresh rate setting inside the Nvidia control panel as well.
