MSI GT60 0ne w/ GTX 680m - gaming notebook, and mobile gaming help wanted

Thread Starter
I just got the GT60 0ne w/ GTX 680m and I am really in awe of it. I have had only mid entry level notebooks int the past and they haven't been anything great. This one has good build quality, feels nice and solid during use, and is suited nice for gaming. The Steelseries keyboard built into it feels great, much more of a solid feel when typing and gaming. Not to mention that the customization ability of the led back-lights give it a nice fun feel. The audio is actually good, as I am usually a headphone person I am finding myself gaming with Spotify cranked up through the onboard speakers. The screen is 1920x1080 and @ 15" it is very sharp and looks great, even when text is small it is crisp and clean. I Have enjoyed my time gaming with it over the weekend. I played WoW for a few hours and loved that I could tune the settings to look great with good framerates. I love the screen for gaming, though I found that I had to increase text size in WoW to actually read it easily as it was nice and readable but insanely small lol. I will be trying more games over the coming days and will be running a few benchmarks to see how it fares. Does anyone else have one - or used one? Interested in what you think and if there are recommendations for gaming on laptops? Like good packable headsets, good small gaming mice, and the like.

I was looking at those laptops until I found the Alienware in my sig. Is the build quality pretty good? I really liked the specs - but not the appearance - of those MSI laptops. And the 680m is nice too.

If you haven't gotten a case for it yet I'd recommend the Alienware Orion if you're okay with a bag that's made for 17 inch laptops instead of 15 inch ones. Granted it's an Alienware branded bag, but the bag is nice and solid with tons of pockets and is TSA compliant if you take it into an airport.

As far as packable mice go, really doesn't matter. I use a Steelseries Sensei and it packs fine. I generally only use headsets for ventrilo/skype/teamspeak/etc, but I've got a cheap small one from logitech in case it ends up breaking while being transported. It has some flex to it and the mic works well, so that's all I care about

I find gaming laptops to be horrendously overpriced! With that being said, I love them! Sure it costs almost double that of a comparable desktop, but I like the portability and the idea of having something that can run BF3 @ 1080p with settings nearly maxed... I recently built myself a pretty capable desktop...however, once funds permit, I'll be getting an msi laptop with equipped with a gtx 680M, or wait for the newer gpu's to debut... Congrats on your purchase... I'm jealous tongue.gif

Once you get used to it, you'll soon find how underwhelming most desktops are. The quality of most gaming laptops are considerably beyond anything that a desktop user can fathom. Everything wobbles in a desktop. tongue.gif I just feel like something's going to rattle loose when I work on a desktop. The laptop has everything all snug and compacted. ^_^

The GT60/70 machines have always appealed to me as something I'd be really interested in. The cooling arrangement is definitely one of the more interesting by comparison to the others.

I have to disagree. I've seen well-built desktops that are fairly quiet despite having a GTX 680 and a i5 3750k.

This is probably because I was always terrible with the desktops. Always felt so clumsy. biggrin.gif:o

So the laptop is where I'm most comfy. :3

If you want to stare in awe at some graphics, download the MaLDoHD Mod for Crysis 2.

As for gaming mice, Im currently just using the msi gaming mouse that came with my laptop, its quite sad I have my G9 and CMStorm Cherry black sitting there doing nothing because im quite content with my laptop keyboard and mouse. Its whatever you get used to really. I think most mice are reasonably small and compact so that isnt toooo much of an issue. Not sure about small headsets, i have a G35 which is kinda huge, i think the H390 from Logitech might be quite nice however.

I need to hold off on a new headset I think as I need to see an audiologist due to sensitivity to certain frequencies. Mainly have a hard time not hearing whining sounds and static/white noise on my headset at work. I am looking for a little gaming mouse to use when not using my logitech mmo mouse. I like using my fingers to just move it around (claw grip??)... I love my main rig but like the fact I can move around while playing or relax in my recliner lol.

Agreed! It seems expensive to most people...but I like the idea of having a laptop that has the power of a gtx 670 (albeit, 20% less performance than a desktop 670) and is easy to carry around... Can't wait for the new gpu's to come out to get one...or, a price drop on current msi laptops
