Cannot clone WIn 8 from HP laptop to SSD - Page 3

Ok I managed to get this done on my laptop. I have the HP envy sleekbook 6. It came with windows 8 preinstalled. In installed a 125 gig Agility 4. Here is how I did it.

1 - Make the hp recovery disks. In my case it took 6 DVD's
2 - Shut the laptop down and turn it off.
3 - Replace the laptop hard drive with the SSD you wish to use.
4 - Power the HP laptop on and hit esc key to start the boot menu.
5 - Hit F10 to enter the bios.
6 - Change the wait time to something manageable like 10 seconds.
7 - Disable secure boot
8 - Make the rom drive bootable and your primary boot device.
9 - Hit F10 to save and reboot
10 - Hit escape and boot to your Recovery disks.
11 - Select recover with minimal install. This will install Windows 8 and the HP recovery partition. Windows 8 took a little over 30 gigs in my case and the recovery partition is about 25 gigs.
12 - At the final reboot hit esc and then F10 to enter the Bios.
13 - Change the wait time out back to 0
14 - Change the primary boot device order back to your desires suggested would be the OS
15 - (Enable Safe Boot if you want)
16 - Let the windoww8 boot and complete the setup.
17 - Celebrate with a Dr. Pepper.

Good! Glad it worked for you smile.gif

I tried it at the weekend and it didn't work for me. Creating the recovery disks took 4 DVDs, but when restoring from them the process failed on the last DVD ever though the verification passed ok when making the disks.

Some kind soul gave me a copy of a Win 8 DVD last night and trying it out it installed without a hitch onto the SSD (with Secure Boot disabled and the BIOS keys deleted) - it even activated but still means that I have to install everything again which is exactly what I was trying to avoid.

I know it's a bit late in the game, but I'm not actually sure I can be bothered with Windows 8, but I'll install some things and see how it goes. One thing I HAVE learned in the past few days though is that HP are such a let-down - a company with which I will ensure I NEVER have to deal with again....ever. They're simply pathetic.

On a positive note though I'm grateful and happy that there are such helpful and knowledgeable people in the world as I've found in this forum, and I would like to say thanks to you all smile.gif
