(spoilers) Uncharted Golden Abyss disappoint anyone else?

I just finished beating this game for the first time last week. The game to me felt well made but full of gimmicks that felt randomly thrown in. Some were a little annoying/confusing while others were in my opinion game breaking.

1) Barefist boss fight. I haven't been this overjoyed about a barefist fight since Metal Gear 4 Snake vs Liquid. My exciting was killed when I noticed this was going to be a QT event using swyping over the vita's large screen. I could do it, but it was awkward and not at all fun to me with no real skill involved. Same thing with the final boss fight where I thought they would let me have just a little bit of fun with a boss but no, it was another QT events. The games only two QT events involving more than one swype happened to the final boss fights...

2) Barefist fights in general. Nothing like coming out of hiding to barefist fight someone while being shot at and having to take your hand completely off the buttons so you can do the few swypes across the screen. Was this needed? It killed part of the experience for me. The swyping was badly done and the longer the animation played out the more I was shot.

3) Where you can and can't fall to your death was random. Just because you could make a jump or grab onto something but the developers thought it wouldn't be possible or something of the sort so instead of grabbing on to something or landing on the platform my player would freeze in midair and then fall to his death. For part of the game I wasn't afraid of falling off an edge because the game didn't let me but yet I learned the hard way that sometimes it did allow me to do this.

4) Climbing controls didn't always work right for me. O which I thought was suppose to drop me would sometimes make me jump. Pushing towards something and hitting x would sometimes leave me stuck and think that maybe the game froze on me with the only solution I found was to repeatedly push x until drake decided to move.

Other than that the game was awesome. The story was decent. The gun controls were some of the best I've seen. The AI wasn't bad either. No clue why they wanted to add all the on screen swyping stuff with a game that was good the way it was. I loved the way Shenmue used it, RE has used it decently too but it felt real out of place to me in the way that drake used it and I've never seen a game use for the entire boss fights beyond dragon liar and even in dragon liar you sometimes had a choice on direction.

Nope, I wasn't disappointed. I loved it. I didn't mind the touch controls for anything really, but I would have liked the ability to "touch" grenades and throw them back ala Uncharted 3. Now I'm not saying the melee was better than U3, it wasn't, but it wasn't bad.

As far as climbing goes, where did you play it? I only ask because for some reason you are unable to turn off the tilt functionality when it comes to climbing. When I was laying down playing at strange angles I had to straighten myself otherwise climbing would not work correctly.

I play my vita games when I'm laying back relaxing. This makes the portable screen perfect but the touch screen and tilt controls used in fast pace awkward. I don't get why they didn't give us an option to opp out of it by using the buttons instead.

The final bosses when done that way took out all the challenges and excitement I might have had with the fight. I couldn't even see half of what was happening because my fingers kept getting in the way when I went to swype it. Not to mention the way I had to one hand grip the large vita to swype it easier. Overall it felt to me like the touch controls were added later and weren't well planned. I like their use with aiming but found the grenade throws to be too easy to hit the exact spot so they were a little overpowered which could explain why they were a semi rare find. The first torrent guy I launched a grenade directly behind the torrent, even saw the explosion in the right spot but he didn't even seem phased. This was my other annoyance, only allowing us to move in a single correct path despite having so much opportunity for paths to break off adding more replay value. Grenade wasn't how they wanted me to kill the torrent guy so it didn't work even though it should have.

I would have loved the game if I was presented with an option to turn off touch and tilt by using the well placed buttons instead. If this was the case I would not have had a less than optimal experience playing the game in a position that wasn't ideal.

i personally loved the game, but i felt the touch controls were at their limit. as in, i didnt mind them, but any more use would have been overuse and very annoying. they were implemented fairly well, i could not get over how awesome it was having to hold my Vita up to the light to see through a parchment, THATS how you make use of the technology at hand. i actually never even used the touch unless i was prompted. melee and all that was done the same way you do on regular console.

after just finished reading Uncharted: The Fourth Labyrinth, im going through all the games again, turning up the difficulty where i havnt done before. going through Golden Abyss on hard now. forgot how great of a portable game it really is. cant wait for more.
