(TechSpot) AMD's upcoming 'Richland' APU clock speeds detailed - Page 8

140$ please

I really really wish Steamroller was coming out this year. My tax return is begging me to upgrade to an FX 8320, but my brain ( at least up until it was delayed) is reasoning that a stand alone Steamroller will be a better performance jump. I wish we could at least get some numbers and engineering sample benchmarks to go by to know if its worth waiting for.

I don't know why, but my gut is telling me Steamroller will deliver on a performance level we haven't seen from AMD in a very long time.

Even if this is just a clock speed bump for the IGP, it's a pretty impressive one.

Cache misses reduce IPC.

So yes, Netburst's problem was IPC (combined with not reaching target clocks), and it's low IPC had a wide variety of causes.

For these expectations there is good reason, Jim Keller as AMD chief CPU architect on the Steamroler Core and so on all other future AMD CPU / APU models. wink.gif

As previously reported, Richland APUs are essentially a tweaked version of Trinity, built using the same 32nm process and "Piledriver" CPU micro-architecture, but featuring higher clock speeds and tweaked graphics -- branded as 8000-series but they’re actually based on the same Radeon HD 6000-series foundation as Trinity’s.

Kavari will be Fm2 boards, AMD isn't leaving AM3+/FM2 until they go DDR4 in 2014/2015.

Yes.

Now whether motherboard manufacturers make it bios compatible is a different question altogether.

AMD announced themselves that FM2 will have about 3 years of CPU releases before being replaced, so Kevari will be FM2 or at the least, capable of running in an FM2 motherboard.

My guess is AMD will replace FM2/AM3+ when DDR4 becomes mainstream in 2015 which Excavator.
