[YT] Hawken PhysX Trailer - Page 3

Knew before I even entered the thread that all it would be, is a bunch of people with amd gpu's bashing the game and the PhysX. You guys and gals didn't disappoint.
Please don't try spin it any other way, than you are annoyed that you do not get to use the PhysX.

I think Hawken is a fine game, if you take it for what it is...Unreal with mechs.

I have a GTX480, 460, and 275, in addition to my AMD GPUs, and could slap in the 460 or 275 as a dedicated PhysX card in minutes.

No one is bashing Hawken's PhysX implimentation because they don't have modern NVIDIA hardware.

People are criticizing the implementation because it largely adds clutter/distraction, to fast paced shooter where situational awareness and rapid target acquisition are significant factors.

And It's one of my current favorite games.

Well blameless it was the same when borderlands 2, brought out their video.
It was nasty, everyone with an amd gpu was in the thread shouting to the heavens that it was unfair and that it looked terrible anyway.

I recall the thread, and while there were some such comments, I don't think they were the majority. Personally, I'll always advocate PhysX comparisons, where applicable, because I know some people do find what's added to be of value.

My complaints with PhysX are usually the same. Almost no game uses it for anything besides eye candy, therefore I have little reason to go out of my way to use it. I was running GTX 460 SLI as my primary video setup for a while, then a GTX 480 with a 460 intended to be dedicated to PhysX after that, and even then I rarely even bothered installing PhysX because it's implementations were so trivial. It was often a choice between PhysX, or or more traditional means of improving IQ, and the more traditional means usually made the game look better for the performance hit caused. When the choice is between AA (or FOV, or HD textures, or whatever) and PhysX, I usually take more of the latter, even on my NVIDIA setups.

The handful of games where it's used for more show real promise (CellFactor was pretty damn neat), but are mostly tech demos to show off PhysX, so aren't especially good games in and of themselves.

It's like I said earlier. Proprietary middleware tied to certain hardware is in a difficult position. If PhysX is not required, it cannot be used to it's full potential. If it is required, you lose a huge portion of the market (i.e. everyone without a higher end NVIDIA GPU).

Ye, that does suck. While it is nice to be exclusive and to have it especially for us(well that is what we are paying more for with nvidia right? Its certainly not more performance this time round =p haha) and feel all special blah blah etc.
I would much rather nvidia would release it widespread, and that games and nvidia would really work together to optimize it and use it for so many things. Cause the idea behind it is amazing, would love for it to be in most games and run alot better, while being available for everyone.

I have cards I could use to run hardware PhsyX, but the performance hit would likely still be significant.

And as has been mentioned, the game is rather competitive and is a fast paced mech-shooter. Much of the effects have the potential to interfere with your ability to play, even if you can take the frame rate hit.

I get like 10-20 regardless of settings.
