Why bother upgrading the mobo/ram/psu if not upgrading the processor? The cpu and gpu are the main parts that give performance and should be thought of first. You can go ahead and get the 660 now but don't bother upgrading the other parts until youre ready to upgrade the cpu as well.

I'd use the money you saved and get a 7950 instead. Then when you saved enough for psu/ram/mb and cpu altogether then go for that.

edit what psu do you currently have?

660 non-TI isn't much of an upgrade. 660Ti or Radeon 7870 will give you a couple of years of gaming out of it.
Currently the Radeon 7870 LE (Tahiti based...7950 cut-down can be had for $220 after $20 ebate -
Newegg and Amazonare out of stock but SuperBiiz has it for $236 also they have a x4 970 BE OEM cpu for $72

So what's the difference from my CPU and the 975 also isn't DDR 3 better then ddr2?

I dont see how the x4 970 is worth upgrading to. Just wait to upgrade the whole platform. Fairly insignificant performance gains from upgrading to DDR3, for gaming that is.

Since he is coming from a 460 that is a huge upgrade, especially if its the 768MB version. But I think what Heuchler meant is that the 660Ti/7870 is the better investment and I agree.

What is your budget for CPU & Mobo combined once you get your rebate?

Definitely and absolutely no reason to upgrade from a phenom 2 955 to a 970 or 975 lol. Thats not really an upgrade, just a stock core clock increase which you can do yourself.

Wait to upgrade to a new platform like Leftfield said. I'd go for 1155/z77 if money permits. Otherwise Amd is good i guess but im not up to date on their platform.
