When I saw the title of the thread, I was hoping the "popular applications" was something other than lame bench-marking programs that typically don't really tell much for real world performance or gaming.

I don't understand how you can actually compare the OC of a 3930K to an IB CPU.
Completely different CPUs.
Its like comparing your 1000 liter superbike to a prius and say that the prius is better to get from A to B just because you can carry your family in it, even if you drive alone 100% of the time.
Clock is not everything.

I never suggested that clocks are everything, the discussion just was the different OCing capabilities of SB and IB. Wasn't about performance or anything, just OCs.

Obviously SB-E is better in terms of performance. But IB OCs better if you can cool it properly.

I would understand that if you compared the SB to IB, not SB-E.
SB-E was never an amazing OCer, and SB was the very first step into that technology to intel, so its understandable that they locked the SB.
IB-E is based on the IB-EP/EX tech, and it will also be heavy server oriented like the SB-E, so assuming that it will be a much better OCer than SB-E, is still premature.

SB and SB-E are in the end very similar OCers. They behave in an extremely similar way, they can be maxed out with SS, if not chilled water, benefit very little from extreme cooling, take high volts badly, degrade fast. The architecture is the same. I could have used SB instead of SB-E in my claims earlier, wouldn't have made a difference.

Who has the huge amount of R&D money? Intel. Who would you expect to make big jumps in performance?

Anyway... Haswell was supposed to improve on the IGP, right? So it doesn't bother me much that performance isn't a huge jump. Although, according to Intel'sTick/Tock strategy it WAS supposed to be a big jump in performance.

Whatever, we'll see when the product is released.

Like a lot of people have said earlier, these benchmarks kinda sorta mean nothing to me. Synthetic benchmarks are just that, synthetic. They're by no means a very good indicator of real world performance imho. Also guys a typo is a typo, I've seen countless articles from dozens of very reputable websites with typos here and there, it's not enough of a reason to discredit them. What I do think is that the performance of the haswell architecture MIGHT not be what we expected, but this information doesn't give me personally the benchmarks I'd like to see for gauging how good haswell really is.
