Despite me starting the thread with the
face, I actually agree for the most part.
As long as the PC version gets proper M/KB (no acceleration, geeze), proper resolutions, no arbitrary FPS cap, and preferably some extra sliders/quality levels for things such as shadows, SSAO, textures, etc... it's more than met the criteria for a competent if not necessarily excellent port. Things like Dark Souls where it was a total cluster are obviously the ones we should be more concerned about.
And as far as the "macro" transactions go, as long as they don't prevent items being acquired through in-game means or turn the game into a never ending grind just to force you to buy currency, then it's not an issue. I am definitely concerned that even if implemented "right", they are a slippery slope and will lead other devs/pubs to do the same thing, but in all the wrong ways.
As I posted earlier in the thread my main beef is when DLC is released only on console and PC is treated like a leper colony. I get that there is little profit motive in releasing DLC for PC, but it still stings a bit. Especially something like Dead Space which barely broke 2 million on consoles, you gotta figure PC sales were probably 10-15% of that, so maybe 200,000 to 300,000 and figure DLC sell though would be well south of 50% of that. And yes I'm just throwing out numbers here regarding PC and DLC sell through but I'd be shocked if I weren't in the ballpark. Even assuming every PC player bought a $5 story DLC that's only $1.4 to $2.1 million. Which makes it obvious why they don't bother when they they could get probably 5 times that on the consoles and they only have to do QA for two fixed platforms.Edited by zinfinion - 1/30/13 at 7:08pm
