Just see how many people buy it. If it turns out to be a huge hit, EA will do it more. How does it affect you? Nobody is forcing you to buy the game. If enough people agree with you, this scheme will fail.
They do make money. They'd be making a whole lot more of it if they weren't busy squandering it needlessly on marketing and buying up every development studio and license they can get their hands on.
EA reminds me a lot of Hollywood in that they seem to have fallen into a routine of simply releasing sequels and remakes or rehashing franchises. When they create something that is worthy of both my time and money, then they can have it. In the meantime I'd rather use my 60 plus quid to buy or support a few indie games here and there.
