[Dtoid] Dead Space 3 microtransaction/DLC prices revealed - Page 8

Hope this wont look like a rant, but this kind of things piss me off.

First, people saying they dont get what's the fuss about mouse+kb,let's go back in time to when the first Dead Space first came out,yes it was a awesome setting for a horror game, original and all that, but the pc version support was shocking for a AAA game,we coulndt remap keys, they were hardcoded (yes i know we could use other programs to change the keys in windows, but EVERY single pc game has customizable keys out of the box) there were issues with mouse aceleration, and to make matters worst,no word about fixing this.Till this day, they never released any kind of fix/support for this issue.

Now the micro transactions, people either defending them or saying "if you don't want them, don't buy them".
We can't have that passive attitude,it's because of that that we got to were we are at the moment, micro transactions, day one dlc's,etc beeing the norm instead of the exception,if we,the gamers, the TARGET for all of this just sit idly by and don't say what we think about it,it's only gonna get worse.I still recall the days were we would get free content for our games long after they were out, like the first Unreal Tournament giving us extra maps, game modes and so on,or even on Morrowind,we got loads of free plugins made by Bethesda, then came the dreaded horse armor DLC for Oblivion, and lot's of similar stuff, like the pet's/mounts from official WOW store and all the other examples on this thread.

As long as WE,THE PLAYERS,just take a passive attitude like "if you don't want it,dont buy it",things will ony get worse, like it's clearly the example here with Dead Space 3.

Sorry for the long text but this really annoys me as a old school gamer, seeing were things are headed, makes me sad about the state of the gaming industry, and EA wonders why they are having low profits....It's because of this EA,this s*** that you guys keep imposing on your costumers, that you just gonna keep on loosing money.

EDIT:Not to mention what EA has done over the last 2 decades to loads of other gaming developers and still continues to do,but i've derailed this thread long enough.

Sorry for my ignorance thought marketing and advertising were used interchangeably!

Anyway, flinging millions of dollars around to push your products doesn't necessarily mean they're any good or that people will want to buy them. Consumers speak with their wallets, EA doesn't seem to grasp this. When sales are down they like to point the blame somewhere else other than themselves, piracy for example.

The world is still in a recession and only ever so slowly recovering. Now more than ever people want to feel like they're getting their moneys worth when they buy something.

They did fix the problem, just not in the first Dead Space. However, that's not what people are mad about. They're mad about the fact that Papoutsis said he's allowing keyboard and mouse support as if it's some special feature, but that's not actually the case. The line was pulled out of context to make it look like that, but it's not what he was saying.

You just seem to be going off on stuff that's pretty irrelevant to DS3 (DS3 is not receiving day one DLC). DLC itself isn't bad when it's done right. Bethesda, who you used as an example as how bad DLCs can get, have actually released some of the best DLCs out there and they were more expansion packs than anything with the only difference being you can download them. It annoys me that people simply hate the term DLC, despite there being many example of good DLC existing and having them be no different from the expansion packs of yesteryear. The microtransactions aren't actually that bad because they're not important to the game. They're not taking content out of the game to sell, they're simply making it easier for those who don't have the time to grind their hearts away. There's companies out there doing much worse so they should be the ones you complain about, not EA. The fact is, it costs much more to develop a triple A game than it used to and since games haven't actually increased in price, they add things like DLC and microtransactions to help make up the difference (and in some cases, it helps developers continue work on games, BF3 being a good example of this). It's not to milk or harm consumers.. it's simply business.

I think people need to stop letting nostalgia cloud their judgment. People only remember the good about the past and never the bad. The truth is things aren't that bad now and have arguably gotten better. There's always been corruption in the gaming industry, moreso in the past than now.

I don't actually recall EA blaming piracy all that much. They tend to place the blame where it makes sense, such as a high budget game not making as much as projected (which, considering the cost of high budget games, is a huge deal).

Dead space was garbage anyway. This only solidifies it.

Its not REAL horror like Resident Evil 1-2-3 or Amnesia or Silent Hill

Its OMG LOUD NOIZE BRUHHAHSDHASUDHSAOIAHFOIGHJAIGJA RAOJRHASLIKFJLADYUA YOU SCARRED BRO? ASDPIHIASPFGHIPASFPOIASFPOAFJ RRPROBOOBORORR!!!!!!! ADSJSAJAJDSJSADJDSAJDSAJADSJAD SGOHJBJOSHGLJKADNFLKJAHTOUAHFOLIAHJNFOIAHJI!JI!!!LASFOP:JUA{OFKAOFKASF

Not real horror just annoying. Fact that they are screwing their customers this hard just makes me laugh at people who bend over for them for the sake of having 'a scary game'

Well this is news to me, would you kindly provide some info regarding this? In comparison to the gaming industry's behavior of "now" of course.

Then a few months after release they'll say the game was a flop and go free to play.

Fair enough, but how much of a big budget games actual budget goes towards developing the game? Spending millions on rehashes and more sequels will only get by for so long unless you try bring some originality to the table once in awhile.

Anyway kind of digressing from the point of the thread. If these DLC/ micro transactions are not necessary to play the game then why not just include some if not all of it from the get go? I have no problem with paying for DLC, just bought Hearthfire and Dawnguard for Skyrim and I'm looking forward to Dragonborn. In my opinion these are worth while expansions to the game. But when someone wants to charge me a fiver just for the privilege of using an "exclusive" weapon or the like, well its kind of a slap in the face and doesn't sit well with me.

The reason microtransactions are successful is if people buy them. If you don't want them, and don't buy them, they'll never make money off of it. If you bite the bullet, and cave in, then they will continue to do it. Simple as that.

Bringing originality to the table isn't always easy and can be a huge risk for triple A games. Investors don't like risks, which is why you don't see publicly owned companies taking risks all that much. Those rehashes (although I wouldn't consider some of them rehashes) and sequels are often what makes the most money. See the CoD series. tongue.gif

Most of that stuff just makes it easier for people to collect resources that are already in the game. There's probably some unique armor, but it's likely that they won't provide any advantage over stuff you can get without paying. I would only be upset if it took away from the experience, which doesn't seem to be the case for DS3.
