Interesting.

One thing I don't get though is why everybody (softpedia as well in the source) is calling this a limited production card. Doesn't make sense to me. I understand that it will be a very low volume, expensive card that may sell out soon after launch due to enthusiast demand, but I fully expect them to trickle back in stock. Why? Because unlike the ASUS Ares card where only 1000 are made and production shut down, Nvidia is going to keep selling GK110 as Tesla... and so long as they do there will be chips that don't make the cut and end up in the GeForce "bin".

Can somebody who thinks this will be a limited run explain why they think that will be the case?

I swear both companies must be owned by the same one and we're all getting duped here.

Why can't ONE of the companies release their stuff in Q2 and have the market to themselves for 6 months??????

We're being jerked around here like a bunch of puppets. Man I should just ditch this computers crap and stop wasting my time with this.

Ever since I bought my pc in 2009 and it came with a GTX 280, I wanted to buy a new video card because it couldn't run Crysis Warhead. When the 480 came out in early 2010, I said it was too early to upgrade so I'll wait for the next one. When the 580 came out in Nov 2010 and I heard that the GTX 590 would only come out a few months after that, I decided to wait for the 590. When the 590 finally arrived in March/April 2011, I bought but then had to return it because my case couldn't handle the heat.

So it was almost 2 years of waiting for a video card and I ended up returning it 3 days after I bought it, so I was still left with nothing. Rumors started circulating that Kepler would come out in Q3 or 2011, so I decided to wait for Kepler instead of buying a GTX 580. When Kepler never came in Q3, I went out like an angry idiot and bought a GTX 580 in Sep/Oct 2011, almost a year after it debuted.

The 580 is a good card but I never got it when I should have. Then I told myself I'd buy the 700 series when it comes out in early 2013, and NOW it's being delayed to Q4!!!

I HATE this hobby.

The very first rule of being a computer enthusiast is to not wait for new parts since there's always something on the horizon.

The second is that once you get your new piece of tech, it's already outdated.

I used to feel like that until I realized that I was splitting hairs and in the end if I just went with a single card that's at least on the top tier I can always add a second when the next gen/refresh comes and not feel too bad. It then lets me upgrade when it's truly worth it.

I did that with my 470's and I plan on doing it with my 7950.

in the end you must realize that as computer enthusiast we'll always find a way to upgrade, you just have to make the leap first tongue.gif

After returning my 590 in Q2 2011, I told myself to wait *just 1* (lol) harmless quarter for Kepler since the 580 was already out for 5 months. Good reasons to wait but a bad decision in hindsight.

Then I made an emotional purchase in Oct 2011 when I heard Kepler wasn't coming biggrin.gif

So now I'm stuck with this 580, a good card but one I never wanted anyway. So I've been waiting a year and half now to upgrade, to find out it's rumored to be delayed another year.

And I'm not buying a 680 almost year after it debuted so I'm stuck with the 580 until Kepler 2.0 comes out.

Watch, when I buy the $900 Titan in Q4 they'll release Maxwell 6 months later which will be $500, 30% faster, and much cooler and efficient biggrin.gif

Hmm, so is Titan coming out Q4 with the 700 series, or are they separate?

If the softpedia article is correct, that's why the "Titan" isn't a numeric name instead.

I have to say I am surprised AMD is not pushing a quicker refresh. If they needed the gaming involved bundles to move units at xmas, what is their next trick to enhance sales.

But I admit to being intrigued by the Titan. Can't wait to see an official announcement so we can see what it will really be capable of.
