My write with a 250 non pro 840 on a old ich8r data 2 is a lot faster than yours Could be a hang up ??

Why is it showing as a SCSI and why not ahci

to be honest im not really getting what your trying to tell me?

your on sata 2 with results that according to your post have much lower reads, but faster writes.

ive caught snippets before about setting things to ahci or scsi but what is the difference?

edited to correct after re looking at your post. thanks for the help i guess i just need you to clarify what your getting at?

Yea those write speeds are low, most scores I've seen posted with that ssd has writes in the about 250 or higher. Even still I don't think low write speeds would be the direct cause alone of your computer lagging how you described. Especially with someone who only had platter drives and similar specs I wouldn't expect lag. The one thing I did find odd was on your task manager screenshot, with your free memory being so low for having 16gb of ram. Notice how almost all your ram is cached. The only time that I have had that happen on my computer is in a scenario where I'm using a ram disk and stop it, except the driver hangs and doesn't properly flush the cache. Speaking of which you should check out "Seans SSD guide" in the ssd section on these forums. Also checking both buffer caching flushing options under properties on your ssd might be somewhere to start. You should already have windows flushing your buffer cache checked. When windows did that to me a few times a reboot worked, but you've been experiencing lag for awhile you said. I don't have a pc in front of me as I'm on my cell but check out his guide, your gonna want to get the most performance out of that drive anyway and he is a very solid source of info.

I did notice though that the cpu seems to be throttling in my gadget that does temp and cpu usage its linked to real temp. could throttling cause this? the reason i really dont understand this problem is because even if i let the videos fully buffer the playback will still show lag if i am doing something else. I mainly notice it when watching something and then loading OCN threads lol

Throttling you say? What are your coretemp or realtemp temperatures like? The only way throttling would happen is if the temps are really high, which doesn't seem likely. (But, yes, throttling could certainly cause these problems; that just doesn't seem likely to me).

I am quite sure your SSD is doing well. thumb.gif

So, we are back to software. Something I have done before is taken a windows install out of a computer I know is working well and plugged it into the one that is suspect. If you are able to do that, you'll see real quick whether or not this is a Windows problem.

there is the temps and by throttling i mean it will fluctuate its clock speeds based on the load i guess, which i wish it would hold at a constant 3.5 ghz which you can tell from the pic isnt the case. it'll flux in real time from 1.5 -3.5 ghz on the gadget i have pictured which is just a link to real temp

i think it may be a ram issue due to the fact that as my ram usage displayed gets higher then the problem becomes more noticable or worse. I don't think the ram is faulty but something to due with settings as you indicated.

where can i find these settings (couldn't really fins them from what you said above) so unless i misread it can you be a bit more specific as to the steps ? thank you!

Did you run virus scans in safe mode? Im telling you this isnt a hardware error lol.
You can adjust ram speeds and voltages in bios. Ram issues would result in a blue screen as well as hard drive or volt errors. You aren't getting a BSOD. This is simply software issues. Java probably. Get a new version of say AVG and clean your Windows install in safe mode. SSD speeds wont make this happen. How do you think people can still run HDDs? If speeds for those caused this, everyone would have issues with their non SSD storage, or even OS drives lol.

I agree it is likely a software thing.

The only reason I keep discussing hardware is that its a new build and in the interest of eliminating possible elements it cant hurt to just make sure the hardware is fully functional. Im not very versed as of yet in software diagnosis or fixing hidden issues so please bare with me. I do very much appreciate the help I promise smile.gif
