[Build Log] AceRuckus

I haven't built a computer since high school so I figured why not try to go a little all out. This is my current plan for now while the temperature is still pretty cool. I live in Cali so might just go and water cool this puppy in the summer.

Case – Fractal Design Core 3000
CPU – i5-3570k
Motherboard – Asus Sabertooth Z77
Cooler – Corsair H100i
PSU – Corsair AX850
Graphics Card – ASUS GTX 670 2GB
RAM – Corsair Dominator Platinum 1866 (4 x 4GB)
SSD – Samsung 840 Pro 128GB

Monitor – ASUS VH242H
Keyboard – Razer BlackWidow Tournament Edition
Mouse – Logitech G9X
Mouse Pad – Razer Manticor
OS – Windows 7 Home Premium

Fans – Scythe Gentle Typhoon x7

So far, just ordered some minor stuff (mouse pad and keyboard). But will be ordering basically everything next week so that I don't get charged interest on my credit card hehe.

Something got dropped off this morning though! smile.gif

If I were, I would grab the 4GB GTX 670 for a few extra bucks for the extra vram for future games etc. It isn't a costly upgrade, and I think it would give it a longer shelf life for you before your next GPU upgrade. thumb.gif Just some food for thought. Everything else looks great though! I love the SSD choice, as I use the same ones (128GB in Raid 0 and a 256GB). Good luck and have fun with the build!

Thanks for the food for thought. I might actually consider that, but I only want to run one monitor. Is 4gb vram necessary?

And off topic but I was born and raised in Waipahu!

I am not a foremost expert in GPU's, but I would think it to be worth it even for 1 large monitor running 1920x1080. My GTX 680 2GB gets fully taxed from BF3 in ultra on one monitor, granted I run SLI now so it is a non issue. But I imagine games are only going to get more vram intensive, so I would personally do it if it were me. You might want to read some of the stickies and threads on it here on OCN. It would give you a better insight than I could, as again that is not more forte. thumb.gif

Do you currently live on Oahu still? I am not from here, I am here due to the military. But Waipahu is one the places I frequent the most. thumb.gif A nicer area than Pearl City IMO! Better food and shopping and such than Pearl City.

will only be necessary if you plan on playing at high resolutions (1440p++?) OR if you play games with a lot of visual mods (still, not really sure if you need 4GB with the latter)

oh and wouldnt you be needing a reference PCB for the GPU if you plan on watercooling it ?

Im gonna be playing Starcraft 2 on 1920x1080 on max/near max settings but a 1GB card could do that. And I only wanna play RTS games. Pretty over MMORPGs and FPSs. Wouldn't mind playing Tribes: Ascend though but even that I'm pretty sure a 1GB card would do.

I don't live in Hawaii anymore. Just visit once and a while. Can't live without the food haha. I agree. Waipahu has more food and shopping. When I built computers in my middle/high school days, I would go to CompUSA by where Starbucks in Waikele is.

There are waterblocks for the DC2 Asus cards available, so he should be fine (EK makes them). It would be easier to find them in the future if it was reference though, as one the 700 series cards launch (in a few months ish?) the 600 series blocks will be harder to come by, and even more so for the DC2 blocks I imagine.

Yeah, you should be fine if that is all you plan on playing until you next upgrade your GPU. For me, games like BF3, Crysis and Skyrim (with a LOT of mods) take up a crap load of vram, but they are above what the average game takes anyways.

I love some of the food, but I just CANNOT get on board with this spam1.gif sensation y'all got going on here! tongue.gif

For now, this will do, at least until the summer hits. Gets way too hot here sometimes.

SPAM is the best haha. I probably think that only because I grew up with it.
