How do you like to BOINC?

Thread Starter
Just a little experiment, to have some fun and some research of ppls boinc rigs. State if its a 24/12/2hr cruncher. Main or dedicated. atx, itx, matx? What are your preferences? Dont need all the specs just cpu, gpu, ram, straight to the point. And please no look at sig comments

try to keep the same template the way I have mine written out
Ill start off

Main 24/7:
2600k, 7850, 16gb,

Dedicated 24/7
phenim ii x3 740, 6950, 8gb

I like to BOINC every so often, like 12 hours a day for 3 days, with my sig rig but would love to switch to a smaller setup. Give me a mITX Prodigy build with 32GB of RAM, an i7 8-threaded processor, my new 7950 and I will certainly enjoy myself much more.

Main 12/3:
i7-920 @ 3.2GHz, HD 7950 @ 900MHz, 8GB RAM
post #3 of 22
Both of mine have been running 24/7 since last September and are ATX sized in Mid Towers. My Boinc Box has a new case ready for it - a Fractal Design Arc Midi and I might get it put into there today. I'm also trying not to buy another 7950 to go in there as my electricity bill is already a bit on the high side mad.gif

Edit to add. Boinc Box now housed in Fractal Design Arc Midi and It's a really nice case with great cable management and superior air flow to my 600T case that is twice the price!

Main 24/7
3570K, 7950, 7850, 8GB

Boinc Box 24/7
G860, 7950, 8GB

I like to boinc from time to time, as does the gf....oh wait.

In the winter, my boinc box runs 24/7. When it starts to get warm, I usually adjust the settings to have it only crunch from 9pm - noon. Now that i'm in the house and the system is in my basement, it may end up running 24/7 again as it was too much heat for my little apartment AC unit lol

I like to BOINC... as much as I can... when house remodel is done, I am setup already to bring 10 more systems online 24/7/365 built on Tech Stations that stack...

Testing 2600K Mobo/CPU today and so far very nice... 4.2GHz on STOCK cooler pulling 194 Watts total.

10 tech stations as follows:

Will have:
5 1045T on Gigabyte MicroATX mobo's (no GPU's)
3 1100T/1090T on Asus M4N75TD mobo's (no GPU's)
1 1100T on Gigabyte Mobo + GPU
1 2600K on Intel DP67BG mobo + GPU

All the above on Linux...

Then there is my main system, plus the FX-8350 on Sabertooth Mobo + GPU's, plus the Asus CrossHair with 955BE(or 1055T) + GPU's...

That will be enough until I add 5 more tech stations...

Wow Tex, you must be getting nervous with all these up an comers to be building 10 more systems. wink.gif

I try to let my systems BOINC 24/7, occasionally I will disable BOINC on my main rig to game. Both systems are relatively loud, probably unacceptably so to many of you, this is due to using a couple of Panaflo fans and a Scythe ultra Kaze for exhaust and case airflow. I am accustomed to the hum in the office. Luckily for the last 2 years I have lived in Apts which have a flat rate for electricity, so I use as much power as I want without any extra charge. biggrin.gif

Main:
24/7 2700K, 7950, 8 GB, ATX mobo in mid tower, air cooled

Dedicated:
24/7 phenom ii 955, 7950, 4 GB, mATX mobo in mid tower, air cooled
