well lets see,

i loved my DCII 6970 cfx setup till one popped, and one just didnt cut the musturd...

next up was a pair of Sparkle 560ti sli cards....holy cow, what a pair....if they had 2 gb of Vram, id still be using them. maxxing out the frame buffer is the only thing that caused skips. iirc 10600+ in 3D11

next up was to be a pair of MSI Hawk 7870's....ugggg---artifacts up the ying-yang... ON BOTH.... return/try again....same thing (on one) returned both and chalked it up to a bad lot....

tested out a gtx 660ti...loved it, gave it to my lil brother!!!

and a pair of Asus DCII gtx 670 tops w/ full cover EK waterblocks is where im at now.....

so in short...I WANT to love AMD, but i think im going to go with EVEN numbered sku's from both companies from here on out... i like even numbers more anyway....

I have no company allegiance, the reason i purchase any card is mostly price/performance at the time of purchase. I have never had any more issues with AMD cards than NVidia. I do not use multiple GPUs in my builds though. Latest purchase was a 7950, very decent card.

I never understood fanboi mentality. I am like you I get the best I can get for the money spent. If it is Nvidia fine, Amd fine.

I love my H.I.S 7870 IceQ Turbo GHz Edition GPU Card. It runs real smooth and is very cool. I haven't even bothered overclocking yet cause it is a juggernaut of a card. I have been playing Crysis 3 on max settings along with Sniper Elite V2, Stalker Call of Pripyat, Metro 2033 and I get high fps and pretty decent temps. I seem to average around 45C. I haven't had any problems. This is my 3rd H.I.S card and I don't think I would buy any other card. I can't say I agree with Derk01 or Knucklehead. I play besides mentioned above Tom Clancy Hawx 2, Battlefield 3, Lost Planet 2, and many more and cant say that AMD is geared towards people who only play a couple of games.. I always update the AMD Catalyst Drivers and that seems to help. I did have some small issues with 12.4 that are resolved in 13. To the people that want to throw their money at Nvidia have at it. Don't get me wrong cause I am not a AMD fanboy, I will buy whatever will give me great quality at a fair price. I don't care if it is Nvidia or AMD it is what it is.

Been back and fourth between Nv and ATI over the last few gens, just replacing my 570gtx with a 7970 after moving to a 2560x1440 display
the 570 just could'nt hack that rez due to its limited 1.3gb vram

First few weeks i had major problems with flickering & stuttering in many DX9 games(differed from driver to driver)
but since the last batch of beta release's things have vastly improved !

The 7970 is a great piece of hardware (fast/cool) but AMD/ATI seem to still suffer from the issues they always had.....

My only slight beef with the 7970 is that the AA/AF quality doesn't seem to be as good as Nv's was on the 570 & that trying to force AA it a lot of older titles results in massive image corruption, thankful RadeonPro/Sweetfx gives me a way to add FXAA/SMAA to temper the problem somewhat.

My last 2 cards have been AMD and the value they offered has always been the best for it's class. I've only bought mainstream cards (4850/7850) so I can't speak for high end products, but I never had any more issues with their drivers than when I was using Nvidia.

Always a flawless experience with my HD 5770.
Then I switched to an HD 7950, crashed a little at first, but it was the aggressive MSI default voltage that wasn't high enough. It's an awesome OCer!

When I buy gpu I usually go for the best price/perf at around a 2-3 years interval and it usually is ATi. Never really saw how ATi / AMD drivers were that bad as the only problem I had with them was because of a bad install over a beta driver. thumb.gif

My 7950 is pretty much okay, not bad but not good overclocker, best around for $370. I get some white screen flashing pretty often but not like I care.

This is a great thread. I went from an 8800gts to a 5850 because the 8800gts never performed to the level they said it would. However, the 5850 gave me all kinds of driver headaches.
A lot of it was non mainstream games and usually it was small things like textures, or flickers, or bizarre AF (lots of people seem to have forgotten the 58xx hardware has a built in AF flaw). Often fixes included turning off things like shadows, or installing user patches. I finally found a driver that just worked.. and actually the 13.2s were the first driver I updated to in over a year (so far so good). That said the ATI hardware has always been better than Nvidia, but Nvidia makes their stuff work... even when they have bugs they actually fix them. I still have games that I have tweaked to run on my 5850 without weirdness.

Also.. it seems ATI shadows rendered differently when I first made the switch.. and I hated that (I don't know if that is still the case, but ATIs shadows seemed to just appear, whereas Nvidias faded in).

I have been torn on getting a 7950 due to price / performance..
I ordered a 670, but am debating returning it due to saving $70 for a 7950 that is a faster card.. but the drivers keep worrying me.. right now it looks good, but it looked good when I grabbed a 5850 as well.

Whenever an issue with a game crops up.. you will almost always see the users card being AMD.. Often though it is a developer issue or a driver bug that is fixed quickly.. but still...

Maybe with ATI supplying console chips developers will use ATI cards to make games.. but right now I am still gun shy.

I still get random disconnects from Tribes ascend... and when I went from 13.2 to 13.2 beta 6 it gave me an uninstall error (though someone said that is a win 8 issue)... and I remember when AMD took ATI over they changed the folder name and it completely hosed up my ability to update my driver without doing a full driver clean.
The good news is I don't get driver not responding errors anymore and most texture corruption in newer games is gone.. oh and tribes ascend with the 13.2 beta 6 is much smoother than it was prior.

But.. it seems so many have no issues.. that I don't understand why some of us do.

My last card was a GTX460 which I had oced at 850mhz and performed quite stellar, I haven't experienced any problem with it nor the GTX 260's I had in SLI.

Before that I had two 4870's in CF for a year and the year before that a single 4870, which as well had no problems, reason I went with 260's was that I wanted to check out PhysX but it turned out to be a gimmick in my eyes. It was fun for a while with Mafia 2 but the game itself was quite a disappointment after having played through it and looking back at the original Mafia game.

I bought a MSI GTX670 power edition as an upgrade but it ran out of stock and was forced to choose another card, I had read about some issues with the 7970's but decided it was worth it because the performance was higher. And now more then 7 months later I am happy I did so. I haven't seen any memorable problems as a single card user, most of the driver issues that were in the form of some flickering was a the very start back in 2012 January when the cards just got released before I even bought one, and its been fixed for a long time. I always use the latest beta drivers.

The reason I mentioned this is because of the negative outlook allot of people have , but it's not so prevalent as thought to be.

But there's always room for improvement.

EDIT

Somewhere in 2006 maybe 2007 I used to have an Asus 8800 GTS 640mb card I remember it came bundled with Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter however it was actually meant for Crysis. I was glad with the upgrade to a Sapphire 4870 512mb graphics card back in 2008. Which still struggled with Crysis however.. tongue.gif

I have had some install problems with Tribes as well , it still says when I launch it the first time that I have both a steam install and a normal install, for no reason. Its on a fresh install of windows 7. And before that I couldn't get it to install on a previous windows installation , well I could eventually after days of troubleshooting , there are lots of complaints on the Steam forums.

So this is purely to blame on Hi-Rez Studios. I also reap the benefits of the 13.2 beta 6 with this game since I used to have some performance issues in a couple of maps but these are gone now.

--

I also have bad performance in Saints Row 3 , its smooth but its not 60 fps, with the exact same system and a GTX460 I didn't have this problem, but its worth mentioning. Weird how some people claim to have 60 fps. It's ironic that it's sponsored by AMD.
