There's a lot I like about my new Sapphire Vapor-X HD 7970 GHz. But coming from a GTX 580 Matrix and a GTX 670 DCII (broken), here some things I dislike about it.

Hardware
There's some coil whine. It's not audible when the fans are spinning up, but it's there. None of my previous ASUS/NVIDIA cards had any, except when they were running at 3000 fps in a game's menu. Compared to the DCII cooling design Sapphire's Vapor-X has rather loud fans. I have to put them below 50% or else the noise would ruin my gaming experience. The card came with a stock voltage of 1.256 V. Increasing the voltage to 1.3 V didn't help with clocks, at all. Obviously the card runs much hotter than Kepler cards, even when undervolted.

Software
The drivers are rather disappointing when it comes to stability. I had quite a few desktop lockups so far. The last lockup happened when I tried to install the new beta driver. This somehow affected my Windows, now I often boot to a black screen. Also the new 13.3 beta driver causes my Logitech LCD program to crash instantly. For comparison, in years of using NVIDIA I have never had a single lockup or a program incompatibility.

Overall I'm not unhappy with my card, the performance is great. But sometimes I wish I had tried my luck with another GTX 670 DCII. If the lockups/freezes continue there's a fairly good chance I'll sell the card and get a GTX 770/780 once they're out.

I have a reference Visiontek 7970 on water cooling overclocked to 1200 core and 1600 mem. I am pretty sure there is still a ton of room to go considering I'm only running the VDDC in Trixx at 1220. So I Love my AMD 7970

I have never had any of the driver issues some people claim AMD is notorious for. I have seen jumps in performance with newer drivers but never had any issues with older drivers...I cannot speak for Crossfire though.

Why do you think nvidia will fix the scaling of quad titans? Anyone remember the 6xxx series? 6990 was a bit faster than a gtx 590. AMD always had better scaling than nvidia especially on 3-4 gpus

Well if I remmeber correctly, for a long time ATI has been getting better performance out of their dual/quad card set ups than Nvidia. Honestly though... I know that they have better performance, that's why I bought the damn things.

So just as an update, I have a new motherboard... a new CPU... new RAM... and a new HDD. All with a new installation of windows. I went back to see if it was hardware related the problems I was experiencing and nope, everything is exactly the same as what I mentioned before.

Some interesting stuff in regards to the issues that crossfire actually has. So basically... the issue is known... is there... and AMD is like. "You caught me! We'll try to fix it now that you know about it." It's simply like a big "SCREW YOU!! Give us your money!" To anyone who is looking to use their premium cards.

Good job AMD!! thumb.gif

Ok... and your point? That's like stating that my VW GTI gets better gas mileage than a Ferrari 430 that has problems shifting gears. Obviously, but doesn't really matter.

I think it's pretty clear. That I am expressing my dissatisfaction with being a crossfire owner of the 7970 cards. I also added a poll to see how many other share my thoughts/experiences.

I was also getting helped to see if maybe it was simply JUST ME or if there's others with the same issues. wink.gif

Why do you ask?

You've done that. I don't see any help or helping just borderline trolling.
