Well... then my self and the 100s of others who have the issue must have something in common. I'm not doubting that you can run the game well. I just can't and a ton of others on AMD hardware aren't able to also.

My results, notice the frame rate on them?

Aside from that small issue, my 6870, and now 6970 have been smooth sailing for a combined for 2.5 years now. I keep the drivers updated to newest stable, or most recent Beta that has been receiving a decent reputation. I'm currently on 13.2 Beta 6, and completely satisfied. biggrin.gif

I have yet to be able to play Rage, it's just a stuttering mess also. It stops like every 2 seconds if I enable Vsync and then tons of tearing without it.

Just saw this thread and voted.

I am and have been using a Sapphire TOXIC 6950 2Gb card. Is been running on 6970 Shade count's and a decent OC for air cooling. So far I have had an amazing time with the GPU.

AMD's driver's have worked just fine for me. The only time I did have a Driver issue was my own fault. I botched the driver install and traces of the old driver remained. I even had an amazing experience with crossfire with two unlocked and OC'ed TOXIC cards.

A second card I have a great deal of personal experiences with is the Sapphire Dirt III 6950 2Gb Card. It refused to unlock but overclock's well. No issue's with it or the driver's. Its performance isn't quite as powerful as the TOXIC but its still a very respectable card for the money payed for it.

I am by no means an AMD fanboy but would have no problem purchasing or recommending the purchase of an AMD GPU.

PEBKAC is a pretty big issue with driver installation.

The newest none beta drivers causes problems for me in Windows 8 (not gaming) but going through the Gaming forums on AMD's gaming site, they actually recommend installing 13.1 Beta 5 or newer to play Crysis 3 maxed out on your card.
I have gone through 3 betas since the last non beta driver was released and at least under Windows 8 its Awesome.
I played Crysis 3 in Alpha on old drivers, and now own the game and using the newest beta drivers. It is ALOT faster now.
For that alone, I wounder what drivers you have installed?

13.2 Beta 6. Installed them 15 minutes after they were released.

So I'm not normal because I'm an early adopter? Since no one else has the set up... not much to really look into. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect for the things to work properly right?

Could be as simple as a bad windows install. (it sounds stupid but it does happen. If this was a fresh install when you installed this card and it is a crazy install a lot of performed, or odd issues could possibly be seen. At work the guys downloaded 2008r2 disk from Microsoft 3 times and install was crappie lots of unexplained problems. One of the guys went home downloaded. Installed perfect 1st try with that disk. It was always easier to notice with XP right away , than with 7 or 8 but imagine still possible)
Or quirky bad hardware.

Or quirky bad hardware.

I've installed Windows exactly 5 times since getting back into PC gaming a year ago. 3 for Windows 7 and 2 for Windows 8.

Everything else works properly, so I don't see how that could be an issue.

So now I'm going to add Saints Row to the pile of games that I don't play because I can not get them to run properly. I guess I can try them again a few years from now with a new build, new hardware and see how they run. frown.gif

Usually when something like this is going on, and after you figure it out, you can't believe it took so long.
From everything you said, I would guess its a hardware issue.
Strange things like this sound like the hw is under clocking it self, or turning something off (if its not broken in the first place). I have seen bad bios settings, and even a small fuzz ball kill PC performance.
For example, I bought an AMD 8350, and the CPU Heat sink mount had some extra plastic sticking up, and heat sink couldn't sit flush on the CPU. CPU over heated, and CPU would go into thermal protection and under clock it self.
Co-Worker's laptop was running very slow, and after he complained with IT for a few weeks, (I couldn't stand to hear him any longer) asked if I could look at it. CPU was running at half speed. Fuzz was stuck in the fan, and BIOS underclocked it to keep it from over heating. BIOS settings to keep GFX card on specific slots running at different speeds too. My MB has settings to turn one 16x slot into an 8x slot and turns the slot next to it on, and into an 8x slot. Also has one slot that always runs in 16x...
You have probably looked through all BIOS settings already, but if you truly believe your hardware is good, it has to be something stupid like a BIOS update, or MB Jumper, or something (I don't know what MB you have, just remembering old MBs I had, and settings that affected performance).
I am not putting you in the same boat of people who I have helped with computer problems in the past... but this could be many things...

Just a few strange things I have seen over the last few months. (a few work trouble issues included)
trying to run Dual Channel RAM in wrong RAM Slots...
CPU/RAM needing manual settings in BIOS to run at base speeds. BIOS under clocked everything by default.
BIOS not properly recognizing CPU
Drivers installed automatically by Windows were bad generic old drivers and had to install specific drivers for hardware
Running SSD as ACHI in BIOS causes problems as chip set doesn't have "good" working drivers. run as IDE
Blown capacitors (saw one PC with blown capacitors still run, just had bad problems)
cracked south bridge
HD IDE Jumpers screwed up telling drive to run at half speed, up to 4GB of space
CPU getting to many volts when only in Windows. BIOS Alarm chirped randomly when not doing anything. (No issues in Win7, issues only occurred in Win8) LLC fixed that...
Fan on new GFX frame was bent so very slightly that it was sticking out enough of an angle it would touch the GFX card next to it and could not spin (master card in crossfire). Card would heat up fast and games wouldn't run properly as master cards thermal protection would kick in.

I know it took you a long time to type all of that and it's because you're trying to be helpful. so +rep to you... thumb.gif

But! You're talking to an enthusiast who has spent around $3k on his set up... and I will be spending another $500 in the next week to upgrade my water cooling set up. Those things you mentioned, I've already looked into and are none issues. Every single one of them. I know what every setting in my bios does. I have changed mootherboards twice, BIOS/firmware for all hardware is at the latest. I have every driver up to date. I also know the performance of each of my 5 HD drives and making sure that they are running at advertised speeds. I know the insides and outs of every registry that is used to run anything on my system. I know what every service that windows uses behinds the scenes is and what it does.

Like I said. I understand you're trying to help, but you can see my specs and my set up and know that I'd probably already have tried all of that.

Pic of my set up so that you guys can see I'm not simply a guy who slapped some parts together and because of lack of knowledge is complaining here. Not dealing with an amateur here. tongue.gif
