Hence why he assumed you were talking about the one with it edited out, which people sheepishly are buying "CSI MAGIC PHOTOSHOP" as being real (we have no idea if the picture itself however is real or fake).

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that Titan will not be faster than two over clocked 7970's...

That's a well informed limb.

It sounds like a safe limb.... but I'm not so sure it is going to be slower than two 7970's. And, if you are counting it against widely-varying oc's on one setup (7970's) you'd have to say an OC'd Titan, not a stock one.

Or maybe this is the next 780, but if that's the case, I just can't see myself spending nearly $1000 on a 780 at all. Not that I can't afford it, it would just bother me that they would essentially double the price tag of their flagship model.

At first, I thought no way to this comment. I've read up some reviews and that is disappointingly true.

HOWEVER, That's because the 590 only performed about 30% better than a single 580 (even in 3DMark11), which is downright disgusting scaling. There is no way known the replacement to the 680 (eg 780) will be the same speed as two 680's, it's not a wise business model... you would be better off to split that performance gain between two generations especially when it looks like we are only going to see similar gains in the 89xx AMD series to that we saw of the 69xx -> 79xx. Hence, they will bring out the "Titan" and that could be almost twice the speed of two 680's, hence it's price. As it would be more expensive than two 680's on release.

Everyone is jumping with joy because recently there has not been a next gen single GPU card that could rival TWO of the flagship current generations. NOT a GTX 690. Two SLI'd 680's. That's a 80%+ performance gain in "one generation"... if you look at the history usually the flagship single cards only see a performance gain of somewhere in the 20-40% area. Also lately the mid range top eg. 7870 will be similar perhaps +/- 10% in performance scale to the last flagship single cpu solution. It's a pretty good marketing model.

It's similar that two 580's in SLI would still be ahead of the 680 by at least 20% depending on scaling. Same as two 6970's vs 7970.

Its more likely that the "GTX 880" will utilize perhaps an under clocked version of this Titan core. This would keep the performance gain across generations and their line-up sensible and short term RnD costs down as they have already pretty much developed the next gen flagship GPU.

If it has locked down voltage and reference board design I wouldn't expect very much OCing head room, if any at all. And I already posted my Xtreme score earlier with my cards OC'd to a modest 1225MHz so I'd say that is fairly close to the average 7970 OC. Don't get me wrong, I would love for Titan to be faster because that would just be mental on a single GPU but I don't see it being more than twice as powerful as a 7970 or even a 680...

Locked voltage doesn't mean poor OC. Just look at my Gigabyte GTX 670 WindForce 3 OC:

Been running like that for several months now... biggrin.gif. And, most GTX 670/680 can OC to 1200 mhz.

EDIT: And, if your two Radeon 7970's at an OC are within 1% of a stock Titan? That would be bananas.... of course we don't know if it's true yet, but if so... eek.gif . I could only then imagine what a decent sample could do when OC'd.

Also add in meeting those performance numbers without the multiple issues that arrise with sli/crossfire in games that would be eliminated on a single Gpu. Sad thing is I'll still try to run them in Sli.
