Thread Starter
My laptop Hard Drive Died, I'm looking for a replacement now. I was just wondering would I see I big difference In these two drives. I have an Ivy Bridge Chipset.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145584 = 6Gbs

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136927 = 3Gbs

Would I notice the difference between 3Gbs and 6Gbs. They say the 6Gbs can get 600/Mbs is that true???

You're not going to notice any difference between the 3Gbs and the 6Gbs, any 3Gbs fine is fine, and I would go with WD.

HDDs aren't anywhere close to filling the SATA 3 Gb/s. The only hard drives that can use the 6 Gb/s are SSDs, which are excellent as OS/important software drives.

I'm not asking if a Mech hard drive will be 6Gbs. I'm asking if a standard mech hard drive @ 3Gbs will get beat by a Standard Mech Hard drive @ 6Gbs. Who the hell cares with a Mech drive can't read up to 6Gbs.

The facts: 3Gbs HDD = 300/Mbs - 6Gbs HDD = 600/Mbs.

I had to figure it out myself.

The upgrade from 3 Gb/s to a 6 Gb/s connector will at most yield very little performance boost.

300/Mbs is a lot in my opinion considering I move large files between my external HDD and my internal HDD.

A mechanical hard drive is NOT fast enough to reach beyond 3 Gb/s, nevertheless 6 Gb/s.

This is an enterprise 15K RPM hard drive:

This is measured in gigabits, and each bit is 1/8th of a byte. Using this standard, according to google and wikipedia, each gigabit is .125 gigabytes, so the total would theoretically be 750 megabytes/second. But, you will never get anywhere near either of these theoretical or actual totals with a mechanical HDD, most cap out at or a bit over 100 megabytes/second.
