did my psu just die? halp!

Thread Starter
Hey, I have a seasonic 650w gold and my computer suddenly just turned off. So I unplug all the drives but leave the GPU and mobo stuff connected. I open my case, hit the power button.... And all I hear is a tiny faint high pitched screech like you hear when you first boot. I hear it for 1/5th a second then nothing .. Its like it wants to start but cant.. The confusing part is that the lights on my motherboard are lit up ( power and reset buttons connected directly onto the mobo ) ... So, there you have it. Did it fry?

If you can get a hold of another PSU to test it with, I would do that. If not, I would RMA it. It sounds very much like a power supply issue to me.

Check your connections to make sure something isn't unplugged.
Check to make sure your RAM modules are seated correctly.

And lastly...remove the MOBO...see if anything (screws etc) is under it.
You can also try to boot the PC with the mobo on a piece of wood or some other non-conductive surface.

Same exact thing happened to me tonight, I was putting in a new HD and I shut it off for a bit and I booted up nothing would come on just some mobo lights would flicker and the fans would run for a split second then turn back off I made sure the connections to the HD were on all the way and nothin I didn't touch anything else in the computer. Guess my PSU bit the dust, looks like I'll be ordering a new one in a couple days.
