The decision came after Google bought Motorola Mobility so it was Google's decision to not release the ICS update for the Atrix and Photon. Motorola was going to release the update and was already working on it which is why there was a leak for ICS with an unfinished ICS kernel. Google just offered the Atrix and Photon users $100 off on their next Motorola phone.

Google has nothing to do with that. It's up to Motorola to get the ball rolling in terms of the update, and then your carrier to actually accept it and deploy it.

If you owned an unlocked nexus device you would get the updates the second they are ready.

Edit: ah okay, I remember reading something like that.

Android has the same issues as they have had since the start:

Their platform is laggy and fails in responsiveness. Until they fix that iOS > Windows > Android

Have you tried WP8? It's refreshing and that's about it, too many issues. Give it 1-2 more years and it'd be on par with Android ICS.

As for iOS, that's a lol, but to each his own.

iPhones randomly reboot, too. It's good to power off your phone every other day, it helps close out all your programs without harming your system files, and then rebooting it allows you a fresh start. Or, you can save your apps (back them up if you're rooted), and do a full reset and restore your apps then.
Nearly every phone ever created has has this problem...Too hot out? Guess what, your phone will probably shut off. Too cold? Battery gets drained super fast, and may restart. Tap it's touch screen too hard? Maybe restart...And the list goes on and on and on. FYI android (and probably iOS) has a task manager where you can clear the ram cache and close all programs running. (although services is a different story)

It's not that I don't believe you, but it strikes me as odd that some individuals working without any kind of backing could put out a superior version of Google's own product. I mean, who would know better, right? Kernels are incredibly tricky things...at the very least I'd expect Google's releases to be more stable.

uhh no. these individuals are part of a enormous developer community. many are actual computer programmers/scientists/engineers, or just incredibly good at programming. picking the correct ROM and kernel, your phone will be miles faster and offer better battery life, with more goodies. Dont be that ignorant. Google provides the source code and the base build, and the developers take it and run with it.
