Is my 2500K Degrading?

Hey guys, so I had this issue for about 2-3 days now where my must and some times my games would Lag just for a split second and then come back on. Today it was so bad I could barley listen to House on Spotify. My immediate thought was Windows was acting up and so I was preparing to do a fresh install. Once I was done, I got this feeling to run Prime and see maybe it was my CPU or Ram. Might as well huh, so I put it to Blend and let it run for about 10 seconds when I noticed that my PC was completely unusable, no blue screen or anything just extremely slow. The Mouse even lagged. So I rebooted my PC and in my Bios I did a Full Defaults Load on the Bios to completely erase the OC, now my computer is running like new without issue.

This is what I did to my CPU from the time I got it,
Did multiple runs for OC, got to 5Ghz on 1.52 Volts.
Decided to stay at 4Ghz, for some time at 1.2 Volts.
Bumped it up to 4.5Ghz at 1.4Volts then to default.

The CPU was purchased Brand New from CompUSA. The CPU has never been volted higher then 1.52 and never overheated. It has been Watercooled it's entire life.
Any thoughts? Is the CPU dying? Or did I just do a horrible OC, also a Note: I started seeing all this happen in the middle of a DayZ session. One of the reasons I put the CPU on 4.5Ghz for better DayZ performance.

a chip is degrading when it needs more vcore for every oc you did, thats what ive learned smile.gif
you can test it, if you made notes or something of the settings you used back then,
and try them again now

You think my CPU hit the point of where it needed more Vcore to operate? Meaning it degraded?

Sounds more like the overclock was crappy. I'd try again and see what happens. Remember, you're running outside of manufacturer specifications so little quirks can happen.

I will try a OC again, lets see what I get. I will run Prime for 30Mins just to see what I get and how stable.

no, more saying for a way to check if it did,
a while ago i thought my chip degraded also, at 5.0ghz i needed just a bit more vcore,
i panicked and asked others whats up with that, is it degrading??
so somone said, prolly not, check your other lower oc's and see if it needs more vcore also,
i did, and nothing changed vcore wise with the other/lower oc's ..lol..
if a chip degrades, it will do so on every oc..not just one, then theres prolly something else going on,
for example what Dylan mentioned..or just windows acting strange etc ..
like you said, new clean install, and most problems are solved

also, most sandy bridge users have stated after a month or 2 or 3 they need to up the vcore a notch or 2 to get stable again. personally i think its 'break-in degradation'.

I tried 4.5ghz at 1.4V and it seems fine. Everything seems okay, strange thou.

Spoke too soon, I now need 1.42V to power a 4.5Ghz stable clock.

That voltage sounds way too high.

Your issue sounds like a hard drive problem to me.
