Is the Asus ROG Vulcan Pro/Orion Pro any good?

Hey guys, I know that you guys wouldn't recommend "gaming headsets" but these particular headsets match my needs. I don't have the money to afford a good sound card and headphones, ($150 max budget. Even if I did, I game on my laptop more than my desktop (being at college), so I wouldn't get much use out of a sound card if I don't use my desktop frequently. Basically looking for a headset with great audio quality (surround sound) that is immersive when playing games, but also is great to listen to music and watch movies on.

These have a USB dongle that's an audio processor. So basically (to my understanding) it's like a portable sound card with virtual 7.1 surround that requires no drivers. It probably isn't as good as an actual sound card, but I'm not an audiophile, I just want something better than my crappy X12's on my P8Z68-V onboard audio.

I think I'm leaning towards the Vulcan Pro (as they are suited for a more portable lifestyle) and I know the original Vulcan received good reviews. I believe the Vulcan Pro is the same headset with the USB dongle and a few other accessories. Anyone have either of these headsets or know enough about them to comment or review it's sound quality? Or can you think of a better alternative for my needs?

Thanks smile.gif

does your laptop have optical out?

Do you game on any consoles?

Cheaper solution to your gaming headset with great reviews and 7.1

Bit-tech.net did a review on these a while ago and liked them. Said they had great sound quality and were but the Vulcan pro wasnt as good of value. I was debating between these and the corsair vengeance 1500. Went with corsair though.

How do you like the 1500? I have heard really good things about Corsair gaming products, but never used any of them. I was thinking about picking up one of their gaming mouses.

Never used any if their mice but I like the 1500. Solid sound quality, software, very comfortable to me and does a great job blocking external noises (huge bonus for me, drives wife nuts cus I never hear her with them on). Snagged them for $60 and have been really pleased. Nicest gaming headset I have owned.

I heard great reviews for them when PC doesnt have a soundcard because they use USB and their own software. Sounds like you are pleased with that aspect. When I got a Xonar DX I decided to get a gaming headset that would work with my soundcard, so that is why I stayed away from all USB gaming headsets.

great price for your 1500.. excellent value.
