P8Z77 V-PRO PRE - OS updates

Thread Starter
Hey folks,
After much deliberating, i have decided to go for a P8Z77 V-PRO.

Which of the updates should i install prior to installing the o/s? chipsets/bios, you get the drift.

And which updates will i need in total?

Regards

Paul

Hey dude, thanks,

I noticed that before, is that the actual order that i should install it all, and if it is worthwhile updating it all before issues arise, i also meant to add that i know i will update the firmware of my 2 m4 ssd's after windows is installed.

Thanks

Off topic, i have always wondered, when i link something, how the hell does one "rename" it .- ie "click to show" or "click here" etc etc

Thanks

Sorry for double posting, but i guessed it was better than starting a new thread.

Having taken delivery of my new board today, is there anything on the mobo disc i could leave out? ie ai suite, fan auto tune(esp this as my case will have fan controllers(nzxt phantom or HAF XM/932 unsure of which HAF as they both look cheap n nasty.

regards

EDT:

To add, what do i do about fan controllers on the case if i do use the fan utility etc?

You could update the M4 firmware using the ISO at anytime, of course you need an OS somewhere to do that first though.. the update itself won't destroy OS and doesn't it. Anyhow, I wouldn't use anything from the CD as it'd contain old stuff.

Just use the link earlier. Start with Chipset and then ME and then the other drivers.

Hi error, thanks.

My m4's have 2 different firmwares, but crucial have told me to update them, so i have burnt a disc, and apparently it updates both at the same time.

So you think, i shouldn't use "anything" from the mobo cd, and download/burn the latest from asus and install it all after the o/s is installed? sorry if i have that wrong, - its early and sometimes things have to be moreexplained in more "lamens" terms than "lamens" terms.
My thoughts were that just because there is a "newer version" it doesnt neccesarily mean greatest

What is "ME"? i don't know anything about dos except i need an O/S installed first.
Is the chipset driver just the main mobo driver?

Sorry for all my noobness, this the my first build, my last pc was prebuilt with my desired specs.

What do you think i need to do with regards to my fan controllers? will i leave them disconnected and just use speedfa or the asus fan thingy?

Regards

sorry again for the double post..

Just built my first rig and almost all is well (except for the hyper 212 cpu waring, which i will get round to).
Problem is, i cant get the cd rom to read anything even though its 1st priority - what am i doing wrong? should the latest bios be burnt as an iso file? and it wont read the mobo disc either? should that be installed AFTER the operating system?

Thanks

If you have no drivers for the CD then it probably can't be read/recognised.. install OS, chipset, ME and then the rest of the drivers.

You can leave the M4 firmware update (if that's what you're trying to do) last, you won't lose the data as it's non-destructive.

edit: come to think of it, I think I'm reading something wrong because obviously you'd have to be able to install OS from the CD drive... so now I'm thinking it's the firmware update you're doing and the ISO burn probably is corrupted.

Hi error,

Having just re-read what you wrote earlier, i should install the o/s first, but yes i was trying to update the m4's firmware first as it appears more people prefer to do that before rather than after.

I have all the discs that came with the products thats no issue, but i still thought i had to install the mobo drivers etc before the o/s then update them.

As for the bios/uefi update, i cant seem to find a CAP-ISO converter as i burnt a cap file(what gets unzipped from the asus D/L folder).

My O/S is coming today and hoped i could get done whatever i could prior to it coming.

Im sure one of my m4's is already 040h - off the top of my head i cant remmeber whether it was the 64GB(o/s) or my 256GB.

Thanks

Edit, - to add, my 256 is 040h and my 64 is 010g so it the 64Gb i need to update, as thats my o/s
