Thats what i thinkt. But ill be honest when i first watched it (before the article) i swore they snuck in a few shots of the console. It doesnt matter either way.. its pretty genius both ways. Show a bit of the console to get people pumped.. or pretend to show part of the console that can be played off as rendering of the letters if its different.

they're probably going to announce linking ps4's together for more cores and crossfire the gpu rolleyes.gif

That could only happen with Thunderbolt. I doubt it... tongue.gif

if I had to guess a price I would put it between $399-$499
$399 is where i would put it. $499 is unlikely

i have my doubts on that, you can easily see where ps3 price is at the moment and vita price for example. i bet they will launch it around the 500€ mark.
it is Sony they don't sell anything cheap

i hope their gamepad has the right analog stick replaced by a trackball, or maybe some type of modulated design... so you could pull out the analog stick and replace it with a trackball if you wanted to, and more buttons, and more ergonomic options

For those with short memory the main reason for the massive price of the original PS3 was due to the addition of a blu-ray player. Remeber at that time the stand alone players cost $1,000 or more. So sony was selling these at a massive loss for the first year or so. Now sense then the prices of those same components have dropped by many orders of magnitude.

lets see what we know is in there so far
Blu-Ray player = cheap
hard-drive - 5400rpm 250-500gb = cheap
8gb ram = cheap
graphics and cpu maybe the only real significant costs to these. and based on the rumors the gpu will be some 7000/8000 midrange AMD card so that may be half the cost of the console.

So I still stand by my $399-499 range.

Game companies usually sell for a small loss on the front end knowing they will make it up on games and accessories on the back end.

After all why should I support a company that Treats Music and Video the way they do. They will probably never see my money, I wouldn't want my money being used to sue some poor kid for downloading a single song now. Ether Give sony computer entertainment a new name that doesn't have SONY anywhere in the title and I may reconsider. Otherwise i'll go back hoping we get rid of the cancer known as sony.

I love me some SONY biggrin.gif Definitely going to be getting the new Play Station

Sony also recognized that the super high price of the PS3 did impact early adoption. Sure you had the hard core gamers that were snapping it up at launch, but there was a pretty large base of people that it was just too expensive for. They knew this and kept supply down to keep that image of them being in high demand, and to prevent people from seeing a bunch of units on the shelf.

So while I would love the above price point, I would also like to see a more expensive unit with a SSD as an option.
