MS is not perfect by any stretch and they don't have perfect documentation (especially for newer products) but they do have a "critical down" phone number with some seriously talented people on the other end. I have some clients that flat out do not want "open source" software running on their production systems. That strict of a stance may be slightly foolish, but it does provide some accountability on the part of the software vendor.
Active Directory is awesome too.

I would highly suggest given the fact you are asking OCN for help on this you need some real help and expertise fast. I would recommend reaching out to a consulting company ASAP... WWT, Bear Data Solutions are just a couple that jump to mind. The Manager of this large accounting firm should also expect to have a high budget for this on a regular schedule and a higher budget for a collapsed time-frame of 2 months...which would normally be closer to about 6-12 months considering the lead time alone for Cisco, EMC, or any major vendor is typically 60-90 days for the hardware.

This is an assignment I must complete for school. Monday is my first deadline for the proposal!
I am new to the IT environment so I reached out and asked for some advice.
In the first post I have attached the requirements of the assignment and further down a submitted some questions to the CEO and posted the answer that were given.

(VDI, PXE OS)
I think I need to stay close to home with this one... (sticking to things I have learned) so I am planning to implement XenServer. This is for an accounting firm so they don't really need much storage or performance, mostly email and documents, so I was thinking to go with the 'ThinClient' concept. Please correct me if I am mistaken, I am very green here, lol ! But for security and redundancy I was thinking of keeping a local copy of each employee on each machine as well as a iscsi san (been told to use Iscsi san)

( he does 50,000 hi res colour pages a month though,... Im thinking for marketing...)

How would I calculate the ISP requirement for this?

my first post was ummm directed for a a real-life situation...

Next time you might start with this is not a real-life situation but a school project

One thing you have to take consider is what government regulations are required for the accounting firm. In other words if it were to be located in the States, you would have to take into account HIPPA regulations which require all Data be stored for 10 years for a Financial System.

That and SCCM, oh how I love SCCM! People can say what they want about MS, but their corporate management tools are a god-send.

My apologies for being unclear in my 1st post. With mentioning that it was an assignment and keeping it simple within academic limitations indicated that it was a scenario based project and not real life. Note for next time!!

Found out I could have just gave a basic price/drop from an online Google quote for the going rate for the area !!! doh.gif!!

I have now been assigned part 2 of this school assignment... I must implement this scenario based on my recommendations (within reason). I have some other changes and guidelines. See attached.

I have access to 1 PC, a server (250G Drive), 1 140G SAS, 1 VOIP Phone, wireless(see attached). I don't need to actually set up 270 Vm's, just a couple to show it works. I would like to get at least one of ea OS that View supports.

The basic set up is:

Endian Firewall (prob in a vm)(<--DHCP/DNS/NTS)(and its Virtual)
Active Directoy w/DNS -
VmWare Vsphere
Vmware View
Zimbra
VOIP - (Asterisk, 3cx.. still optional)
FreeNAS
Spiceworks
Nagios

Is this set up, especially Zimbra, complicated to set up?
(see attachment for other requirements)

Let the fun begin!
