First time overclocking my 3570k

Thread Starter
Hi everyone!
Today I did my first overclock ever on my new pc, I overclocked the i5 3570k from 3.4ghz all the way to 4.2ghz with a coolermaster hyper 212 evo. At the moment my pc seems fine im running a prime95 torture test and I have realtemp in the background. The torture test has been running for about 10 minutes and the max temperature its recording for any of the four cores is 75 degress celcius. I would like to know if this is acceptable and if the temperature is ok for an everyday basis. I would also like to know what temperatures would you consider to be dangerous?
Thanks for reading!

I think thats pretty high as my fx 6300 is at 40 degrees or lower even on max load i dont have a fan or anything extra like the hyper 212 evo just the heatsink/fan that came with it but mine isnt overclocked
post #3 of 11
Those temps sound about right. Max temp according to Intel is 105C. I try to keep mine under 95 for stress testing, and under 85 or so for actual use. Based on my CPU and what I have seen around, 75C with that cooler at that clock seems about right. How much voltage are you using at 4.2Ghz?

Max TDP for Intel CPUs is SIGNIFICANTLY higher than AMD. IE: Thuban max temp is 55C, SB/IB is 105C.

Thanks for the replies!
To be exact the clock speed is at 4326 Mhz with a core voltage of 1.256v.

1.25v for 4.3Ghz isn't bad. Seems about normal... So you ought to be able to push your chip further if you wanted to (4.6??).

As far as max TJ max, that's directly from Intel. The other temps I mentioned (95, 85) are just my personal precautionary limits. With my current overclock I rarely break 75 on stress test or 60 on games. Like I said though that's just a personal precaution. I'm sure I could get more out of my chip but 200-400mhz isn't worth a 10-20C temp increase to me.

You can probably do 4.3 at lower voltages than that. I would think you could get it under 1.25V at that speed.

It sounds like you are using Auto overclocking, since the actual speed is a strange number - which means the board is increasing the BCLK. I would reset the BIOS defaults and then just change the turbo multiplier to 43 instead of using the Auto overclocking. You don't really want to overclock the BCLK on these chips.

Well the fx 6300 isnt the same chip as the 3570k so that doesn't matter.
