Maximus V Formula LGA 1155 vs 2x Samsung 840 Pro SSD & 1x WD HDD

Specs as follows:
Mobo: Maximus V Formula LGA 1155
CPU: Intel i7 3770k
RAM: Samsung's wonder ram, 16gb (4gb x4)
GPU: MSI 7970/OC reference card

GPU/MOBO/CPU under water

SSD: 2x Samsung 840 Pro series 128Gb
HDD: 1x WD Black 1Tb

Can provider more details upon request.

So I'm trying to get my new build up and going but having difficulties with the bios recognizing both SSD'd and HDD. I'm using 800D for the chassis and came to find out that the sata backplate wasn't working at all in recognizing the SSD's. I even unscrewed the SSD's and pushed them directly into the backplate, no luck. I do have the updated 800D with the 6gbs backplate, but it's not working. It does recognize the HDD tho.

With that said I removed the back plate and just connected both SSD and HDD the old fashioned way. I ensured that all cables were on tight and properly. The bios picked up one of the SSD's where I had previously installed windows on during my ghetto test bench to ensure everything worked properly on AIR before putting water to it. The 2nd SSD is not showing, nor the HDD. HDD did show while connected to the sata backplate but neither SSD did. So I'm assusming that it's only recognizing one drive at a time. My Blueray player has no issues being recognized at all.

Anything I'm missing here? Please any type of assistance is very much appreciate.

TY,
Juan S.

Have you tried different SATA cables.. maybe it's bad or something.
But your cables are prolly new so that probably isn't the cause... hmmmm
Or different SATA power cables..

I have not tried yet, I'm currently @ work now so wont be able to try till 3:30am EST. frown.gif

and yes all sata cables are brand new, no issues with them as I swapped them around and all worked fine. I didn't think the sata power connectors would matter since the one SSD that is currently running is powered and works just fine and the other sata power connectors are off the same cable attached to the PSU. But will give it a shot.

TY for the reply!

haha I forgot I guess in all the madness and the rush of wanting to finally use the PC I forgot to connect one of the sata power extensions, +REP

I noticed under UEFI Bios the 2nd SSD was being recognized but for some reason it wasn't showing in windows. I guess 3 hours of sleep had my brain not functioning as usual. So by simply creating a partition on the 2nd SSD it now shows. lol.

Thanks smile.gif
