abnormal temps 3570K

Hello everyone,

Im testing my be quiet dark rock 2 using arctic silver 5, (turbo mode 3.8 is on) and the cpu temp is much worse then its supposed to be. the idle temps are perfect, some of the cores are down to 25 Celsius, gaming temps and intels offical tests also never goes above 61. first I ocd to 4.2 and again official tests and games were cool enough, so I tried the intel burn test ( and in less then a 3-4 seconds the temps were jumping to 80s so I turned off the OC and switched to the factory turbo mode but nothing changed at all. I used both cpuid hwmonitor and coretemp and they both give me the same temps. I also enable the asus utility but the temps will rise so quickly, I just stop the test before it can even sync ... thing is I just dont trust those third party applications as well.. Im not sure whether its a cpu problem, the coolers problem, wrong paste application or jst wrong monitoring. any opinions?

Thanks!

*forgot to mention- rma for my mobo also arrived today so its my first day with it. and Im using the IGPU for now

What voltage? What fan speed? They should be lower than 80C at 4.2, but it depends on a lot of factors.

well ... the insane temps were due to the 400rpm fan speed ... fixed that now but still not the best.. here re some pics redface.gif

Im new to overclocking so this is what I could manage and I find 4.2 enough after my 3.0 phenom biggrin.gif . the system is stable and the real life temps does not go over 69. Im just not sure about my CPU voltage whether if it is high or not too..

Alright watsup man so basically your concerned with temps right?
Well if so firstly we need to discuss the type of chip you have which is an Ivy and they run hot...so these temps your seeing are normal esp. if your not blasting your cpu cooler to the max.
Also that oc is fairly low i would shoot for 4.5ghz for beginner and then play from there. Most get to 4.5 around 1.20-1.30v start somewhere inbetween and work your way down.
To give you an idea these chips are very strong and temps in the 80c range will do no harm to it. I run 4.9ghz at 1.408v 24/7 for gaming and when playing like BF3 i get temps at max of 80c after couple of hours.

Thanks for the reply, Actuallly the only reason why im on 4.2 is that, i have upgraded from a phenom so that seemed sufficient to me for now, smile.gif and there is one tiny problem left with my oc and that is, i cant find how to limit the max voltage for the turbo mode. It sometimes goes up to 1.22 with the offset and 8 find this very unnecessary biggrin.gif re u on manual v?

Yes im also on offset. What you need to do is locate LLC-Load Line Calibration....The settings will be like Med-High-Ultra High. Or 0%-25%-50%-75%-100% etc. I use Ultra High which is 75% this is the % of how close your max vcore will run when stressed meaning how much vdroop is allowed.
