Pull through XT45 140mm

So I realized I won't be able to do Push with the XT45 140mm radiator if I put it to the back of my 500r but inside because the inlet out let tanks add a bit to much length to the rad. I could do it if I had it upside down, but i can't do that since out of the bottom of the radiator im going to have a drain line down and out the back of my case.

Basically my question is, will there be much issues with performance when doing pull instead of push? Ill be using a Bgear Blaster 140mm fan?

Push and pull are essentially the same performance wise. There were some tests performed somewhere here on the forums at one point and if you're interested try searching for them. The BGears fans also have a high static pressure, so you shouldn't be overly worried about air going through the radiator.

Awesome thanks guys. I have my 680 on water but im upgrading radiators and getting the 140mm rad for my 2500k when I stick a XSPC Raystorm block on it.

I would actually think that, pull would be a tiny bit better since theres no dead spot from the fan in push config.

The only thing that really matters is not using heated air to go thru the rad.. For example.. Used air that went thru another rad..

Oh yeah, There won't all the air is either being sucked up and out, or out the back. 2 fans bring air in from the front. and then the entire side panel on this case is mesh. So theres fresh air going into the rads either way.

This is a thin rad while running a perfectly normal 10C air/water delta ... the air coming out of the rad is a lot more than 1 degree warmer. I have placed temp sensors and seen for myself.



I have seen people say that rads don't heat air and I wonder what they think they are there for? Air coming through rads is always going to be just under the temperature of the water in them, trying to use that air again to cool water in another rad is not going to work very well.

A rad doesn't have to be "hot" to affect the air enough to make the next rad suffer in cooling ability. If you are lucky enough to be able to run less than a 10C delta then that just means that the air going to the second rad needs to be even closer to ambient to be effective.

Well, both my rads get air straight from the outside of the case, that was the point, defying Physics because heat rises? ... Ummm air goes wherever I point my fans, that is what they are for.

I don't know how saying "the diff between your ambient air and the air after the rads is about 1c" could be misinterpreted but its just wrong. So is the idea that RAM and Mosfets give off the same "ammount" of heat ... being a similar temperature and putting out the same heat level are two very different things. If RAM and mosfets put out the same ammount of heat as CPU's and GPU's they would always have fans and heatsinks on them too ... Rads put out as much heat into the air going through them as the CPU and/or GPU put into the water ... much more than componets do. I suggest you might be the one who should do some reading.

People do it because they don't know any better. Mostly because of thinking water cooling is like air cooling. Telling people that rads don't heat air and that they can't have more fans flowing in than out just perpetuates it.

You will be fine, I run those fans and while I use push pull, it's on a radiator with 2x the linear fin count (split fins so 4x the amount per areal density), and the performance is fantastic. Delta-T below 5C with 420+240 cooling 3930K+670.

I would recommend adding shrouds, either the Phobya 140x7mm or 140x20mm (first are rubber, second are plexiglass). I have found them to be very beneficial.
