Rattling noise inside Alphacool radiator when shaking

I've flushed the radiator about 20 times now and the noise still remains. Occasionally it will stop for a few shakes but then starts again. It sounds like a very tiny piece of metal hitting other metal. Should I return it? Anyone else had this issue with Alphacool rads? I have the 240 version of the same radiator and don't have this issue at all.

Dude I have the same thing occurring its just part of its design, it's flushed trust me, I just got my loop up and running no crap came out of the radiators.

It's left over flux from manufacturing that broke off. You'll have to make a judgement call on how big of obstruction you think it is. It could be minimal or it could be blocking a row, who knows? It's too bad the XT doesn't have a drain plug at the end like the UT60 and Monsta.

I own 6 Alphacool rads. Only one of them has a rattling noise in it. I havent tried to rince them yet. The UT60's will be easier to flush out with the drain port.

I asked Performance PCS about it, and they said "this is a common issue with Alphacool radiators" but that it won't affect performance or noise in the system after installation.

I would agree with this assessment, but wouldn't it be a good idea to make a note of this on the product page? If the product issue is indeed "common" than it should be pointed out. One could reasonable assume that people building a watercooled rig might be concerned with a rattling sound inside a product that typically is not supposed to have a rattling sound.

Actually just noticed something else in the email chain, they cc'ed me on an email from PPCS to Alphacool:

"See below.

Every day we get complaints on these rads for the same issue.

When will you fix this problem?? We waste too much time on this."

This just made me chuckle a bit. Alphacool sent me an email and they are going to give me 25% cashback and let me keep the rad.

What I don't get is, how has none of this shown up in any of the reviews for Alphacool radiators? I get that's it's possible the reviewers didn't happen to received the rads with the rattling behavior, but it sounds like it is pretty unlikely.

Is the problem a bad review? Or did they get a "special edition" rad I wonder? At any rate, these are the things I hate...I spend hours researching every single component, I do my due diligence and much more, only to find unexpected things once I actually receive the product I ordered.

This rattling is not exclusive to Alphacool. Other rads will have loose flux in it that need to be flushed out........I think.

This sounds pretty specific to Alphacool.

From my personal experience, Alphacool have great designs but can tend to fall short in execution. They had a design flaw in their XP3 cpu block causing it to leak which overshadowed the fact that the XP3 is one of the top 3 performing cpu blocks. Their rads while being superb, the fit and finish can often be less than stellar. Their design of the plugs can also be a hassle with fitment since they are raised off the horizontal plane by a few mm. Btw, my Monsta paint finish was less than great. On one side it looks like something landed on it after it was painted. You can see bubbles all over the finish. I didn't send it back due to how I oriented the 480 in my case and adding delays in sucks. Anyways, I'm not surprised by PPCS' annoyance at Alphacool for their high rate of complaints.
