Weird issue with fat ps3

Thread Starter
So I've just got a fat ps3 for very cheap from eBay. When I try to play black ops 2 about 5 mins in some times a little longer my ps3 shuts down with three beeps and no lights at all wait a sec and turn it back on like before only does it wile gaming and there's no lights no yellow or red lights and turns rate back on. Any ideas or has this happened to anyone on here before, is it overheating should I apply new thermal compound?
I'd say overheating too or psu problem, try putting a fan in front of it. That's what i do when i play for hours since it's in a tight spot.

Edit: here's a quick search that could help you. http://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/57938/Ps3+won%27t+turn+on.+Beeps+3+times.+No+red-yellow+light+flashing.

I would still take a look inside....could be a lot of dust and not good enough contact with the heatsink and the CPU/GPU blocks. Never hurts to add some new thermal paste to it.thumb.gif

I would check the ps3news forums they have more knowledge of these types of issues.

well I would complain to the person on eBay that he sold you a faulty device!

That being said other forums have suggested the PSU like you say so you could try getting a PSU off eBay for cheap and fitting it or try running it in a cool environment with the top of the case off. When it fails check the temperatures to see if they are unreasonably hot.

did you clean out all of the dust?

if so, crank the heat gun to 1,000F and go over the board.
i had a system that would power on for just a sec then turn right off. after 1,000f for about 4mins on the top of the board, everything was fine
