I agree with OP. I stuck with PC gaming because of community. Building computers has been a hobby of mine since I started gaming on them and this only adds to the joyous experience. Communities like OC.net elevate the praise I have for the PC community even higher.

My first gaming system was the Playstation. I then got an N64 for Goldeneye and had a blast playing split screen with friends. My first multiplayer experiences on the internet were with PC games. Unreal Tournament was one of the first. I also played a lot of Diablo 2. I guess I may have been late to the party but I pretty much started off with PC gaming as far as global multiplayer is concerned.

I got into console multiplayer playing Gears of War and COD due to my friends who had them. I quickly grew tired of it though. There is a lot of verbal abuse. The controls are often frustrating. There is little customization for servers/hosts. You have to pay a fee in addition to internet service. These negative marks stack up. I have to agree that overall the PC gaming community is more mature but not necessarily by physical age. I'm sure there are friendly and helpful people playing console but for me the joys do not outweigh the pains.

I've just made the switch recently. I wanted the graphics and cheaper / better games.I never liked the 360 that much but I could play with a larger group of my friends so at the time I thought it was worth it.. As well as that, fixing computers has always been a hobby of mine and this gave me a reason to build my own. My PC wasn't built specifically for games but its something its well capable.

The first game I played was Farcry 3. I liked it. Story not great but gameplay was very fun ( like AC I thought smile.gif )

My main issue is the controls. I cant get used to these controls. So much so that I ended up using my 360 controller for almost all of the game. I know its something that I eventually have to deal with and take time being bad to be better in the long run. Everyone I know who is used to Keyboard MOuse controls says they play way better than off a controller.
Well I will honestly say, a lot of games do feel better on the controller. I play farcry 3 on the controller, borderlands 2 on the mouse and keyboard AND controller if I am tired. But for games like cod and bf3 I will only use mouse and keyboard.

Some games dont feel good with mouse and keyboard, because they are console ports. Some games do not benefit much from a mouse and keyboard.

I would say my usage is
Xbox 360 controller/Mouse-keyboard
60:40 usage

I was always sort of on the fence between pc, and console. My dad was a HUGE Id games fan, so he was always on the pc, since i was like 2 years old. A lot of that rubbed off on me, but i had a playstation 1, and 2 over the years and the original xbox. What killed console gaming for me was the xbox 360 to be honest. I had it for about 4 weeks from release before i decided what a huge mistake getting this was. Got myself on craigslist, traded it for a gaming pc. lanparty mobo, opty 165, 6800 ultra, 2gb ocz gold, it was pretty nice. Right after that, i got into WoW, and Quake 4 multiplayer, and you couldn't detach me from my pc if the house was on fire. It's been like that since then lol, I did recently buy another xbox 360 though about 4 days ago, traded an old phenom 2 rig i had just sitting in the closet. The only thing i use it for is to play Madden 13 though.

So true. There is just so much more freedom on a desktop PC. You can tweak settings and upgrade hardware.

And after optimizing it for gaming you still have a general purpose machine that can be used for writing, research, entertainment, AV editing and work. It's an all in one solution for the digital denizen.

Started out on intellevision/atari, then moved onto the NES, then doom and rise of the triad brought me over to pc gaming, but I never stopped playing consoles, the only console/handheld I havent bought in the last 20 years is the atari lynx...and I still kinda regret that

Only reason I played consoles as a kid was because they were the only thing I could afford with the money I made. I still preferred to game on the PC, but since we only had 1 PC at any given time and it was used for the home business, I had to have a backup. wink.gif
