Thanks...

I started casually gaming on the Playstation. Rayman was the ish back then btw wink.gif but that was just casual gaming as a kid, nothing serious just 30 minutes here for a little fun.... then BF1942 released and my world changed lol. PC gaming introduced me to more serious competitive gaming and a much better community (no internet playing on consoles back then) so i could shoot people online that were actual people and used brains and tactics, the thrill was much more enjoyable knowing your were playing people and not code. of course i quickly grew accustomed to keyboard / mouse / joystick controls and have really never looked back...

besides that i think the overall advantages are obvious, better graphics, better support (mostly), and better games or versions of games... bf3 is awesome on the PC but i couldn't imagine being limited to 32 people maps and lower graphics and no good UI for things like squad management and voice servers

I find myself getting drawn back to the PC more and more for the type of games available versus consoles. Don't get me wrong, I still love playing console games but RTS just doesn't feel right on a console and I love the sheer amount of options the PC offers. I've also been diving back into text-based adventures. (It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.) Something about the PC just has a hold on me!

A cousin of mine introduced me to CS 1.6 and once steam started crazy sales the console world was dead to me.

PC gaming is cheaper for me because even though the initial investment was higher (could probably build a decent setup with a 7850 for $500 vs say around $200 of a console these days), my average game cost is under $10 and I buy quite a few games at release imo (SC2, DOW2:R, BL2, TL2, COH2 etc.) thanks to steam sales (publisher packs on sale, past 5 indie games for $5 packs and such really lowered my average). My console collection average price was way higher.

Also, i'm an RTS nut and many are PC exclusive so that helps...

I know what one i'd prefer. My PC in some sense is a bit like a companion, because i do a variety of things on it. You're quite limited when you're stuck to the roads (aka, consoles) My 4x4 -- i mean, PC -- gives me freedom to go off the beaten track if i choose. How long that freedom will last remains to be seen.

LOVE this analogy. My PC is also a workhorse. Its built to do everything. Music player, home computer, photo editor, bluray player, 3D CAD workstation, word processor, music editor, movie maker, bench marker, internet surfer, HTPC, business computer, homework computer, online shopper, folk art(case mods), graphic design, video game player, etc. Can't do all that on a console. And what you can do I can do better. biggrin.gif

Emigrating to the US was how I got started in PC gaming.

Before I left the homeland (Ireland) I had the following: PS1/2/3, Xbox, Dreamcast and an N64 and I don't know how many games for all them. I worked part time since I was 13 so amassed a bit of a collection over the years. Anyway the cost of shipping even a portion of it here quickly dispelled any notion of continuing to be a casual console gamer in my new life stateside.

Discovered Newegg and forums such as OCN and Anandtech and got the itch to build my own PC after reading up about it. Then I discovered Steam, gamersgate, greenmangaming and GOG and haven't looked back biggrin.gif

I never switched to PC gaming. I started with PC gaming.

Although, going into my mid-20s with a full-time job, a wife, and 2 kids... I'm starting to see the zeal of console gaming.

What made me originally switch to PC gaming?

HL2 and counterstrike.

What made me come back?

Steam and the cost of 360 games.
