Antec Kuhler 920 with AMD FX-8350 bad temps?

OC.net Buddies,

So i have a new build and im trying to see whether or not these temps are ok....

Here's my system;

CPU: AMD FX-8350 4.0 ghz x 8
CPU Cooler: Antec Kuhler h20 920
PSU: Corsair HX 1050w
MOTHER BOARD: Asrock 990x Professional
CASE: Cooler Master HAF X
GPU: ATI Raedeon HD 7970 3 GB
MEMORY: G Skill 16gb (1600)

So im trying to make sure that this cooler is doing its job, and I know that this cpu can run a lil hot compared to some. anyways i really have no idea what temp i should be looking at in HW monitor or speed fan, but i also have this antec software that shows the coolant temp. anyways i cant seem to find a solid forum that can tell me exactly what temps i should be getting while gaming. so far i only have league of legends installed so i set max settings at 1920x1080 and speed fan showed my temps were between 48-51C. I have no idea if thats bad or good keep in mind that is with like 5 windows up in firefox, 3 hardware monitors, skype, and steam running.

Keep in mind I removed the stock thermal paste and applied a thin layer of arctic silver over the entire backplate of the cpu.

at idle it ranges from 37-41C

are these ok temps and when using HW monitor how do i read the temps in the cpu section cuz this is what i see.

Package: value:27 Min: 22 Max:44

Via speedfan: cpu temp was 48-51 c

via antec software: 45.6c

I dont want to boot up like Battlefield or skyrim and have my cpu melt on me cuz i have no idea what is good or not.

any thoughts ideas tips tricks would be appreciated.

Thanks

almost 50 in games? that seems hot for ANY AMD chip. Is it overclocked? I'd probably reseat the block to make sure it was done right

This thread states they got those temps under the stress of prime95, I don't think a game would do that? Apparently they do run a little hot.

What fans do you have and in what config. You could replace them and get better temps.

Ok so Here is some more info

Ran Prime 95 100% all cores for about 10 mins at that point it stabalized temp wise so i figured no need to go any further not to mention if a game ran my cpu at 100% at any time let lone 10 minutes straight i would think that somone wrote a bad game lol.

Heres what i got with 3 different monitors.

Antec Coolant temp sensor - 47.4 c

HW monitor package cpu temp - 44-46 c

Speedfan - 59-60 c (was at 61 for about 30 secs then stayed at 59 for the remainder of the test.) btw why is this one showing such a higher temp?

Immedietly after the test my temps dropped to 37-40c range within 30 seconds. so i know the pump and radiator are working.

so anyone out there with a similar setup have comments?

thanks,

Sage

What is your pump plugged into, CPU header right? Is the throttling disabled in the bios? This will ensure your pump is running full speed

reseated the cpu and reapplied thermal compound. heat seems to dissipate faster but same min/max temps. I mean i wont be overclocking this any time soon, but for now even with 20min in prime95 the core temps don't exceed 47c. socket temp stays a hair below 60. Ill just have to keep an eye on it

50 is fine. not 'too hot for any AMD chip'
this is definitely higher than what you should be getting with a 920.
make sure that you're using only just enough tim.
your pump/block should be nice and tight, but not too tight; i don't know how to explain this any other way tongue.gif

i believe it's 62 on cores max, keep it lower than that and you should be fine.

Replace the fans and do push/pull
