Cooling for Intel 3770K help needed

Thread Starter
Current System:
Intel Core i7 3770K
Cooler Master Hyper 212+
Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe Motherboard
Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB @ 1866
Asus GT430 graphics card
OCZ vertex 3 120GB SSD
Seagate Barrracuda XT 3TB
Plextor Bluray Burner drive
OCZ Z 850W PSU

So currently i have the CM Hyper 212+ setup with a push-pull system setup with basic CM fans. The idle temperatures right now ranges between 30-35. Under full load while using handbrake temperatures maxes out at around 70-72. firstly, are these good temps from this cooler?

Secondly, im about to overclock it to around 4.5 hopefully. will this cooler be able to handle that? should i upgrade to a different air cooler instead? CM v6 gt? CM v8?

or is it better to use a closed loop cooling system like the h80 or h80i? would they gives me better temps? also, which is better between the two the h80 or h80i? or would antec 920 be better than either? i know custom water cooling is better but i dont feel the need for it really.

any help would be appreciated!

NH-D14
are H100I
hope this helped there are some other good coolers out there -

As ROG suggested, the h100i and NH-D14 are both excellent coolers, some of if not the very best if you're not willing to venture into custom loop cooling. Although, this all depends on your budget and case. NZXT are coming out with their kraken series of 140mm coolers, again it all depends on your budget and care restrictions.

I was thinking more along the lines of a 120mm cooler like the h80i or kuhler 920. Also I've read some reviews about the corsair h80 leaking a lot but I haven't found similar results about the h80i or kuhler 920

I had (before water) a Push/Pull 212evo on my 3770k doing 4.4ghz with max 68°c at full load, Overclock it and see how you go.
Oh and that was with Arctic silver 5 tim.
Now with full custom loop 58°c max, is it worth it. rolleyes.gif

are those temps at stock? that's a lil bit high if so. id definitely change the fans, but try remount the cooler first, and see how much of a difference it will make. are you using the thermal paste that came with the cooler? if so, id opt to an after market solution.

So ive actually reset the cooler twice and been using AC5 since i first installed. yeah these are temps at stock speed. would it be better to upgrade the fans or upgrade entirely to an H80i? are there any problems with corsair h80i leaking?
what fan's are you using ?

Look for Thermalright Archon if you wanna upgrade, but a 212 should be fine for 4.5, those temps are high.
