Trying to decide between the Logitech G710+ and a WASD V1

Thread Starter
I'm finally going to get a mechanical keyboard as a gift, but I need to decide between these two keyboards. But, how do I decide? Amazon has the Logitech G710+ at $129, which is about the same price as the WASD. Both use brown keys but the G710+ has the WASD beat feature wise at that price. I'll be using it for general day to day usage as well as some gaming hence the decision to go with brown keys.

So, is the G710+ clearly the better choice? Can anyone comment on these two keyboards? Which is the better buy?

Between those two, I'd go for the WASD easily.

WASD has a reputation for good quality, while the G710+'s quality is uncertain (and there have already been reports that it has a high chance of suffering backlight failure). Subjectively, I also think the WASD is better-looking.

I own the G710+ so any specific questions you have for it, ask me.

But I defiantly recommend it. I dont have any gripes with it, and I absolutely love the features it has (Macro + backlight + fully cherry mx brown + sound wheel/dedicated media is very awesome thumb.gif)

Well not full mechanical, as I believe the media keys aren't.

But a really good keyboard over all so far I've found.

Yep, these are the very reasons why it's even being considered against the WASD. I really wanted something with backlight and mx browns. But I've heard varying views, some say the mx browns on the G710+ are a bit squishy and are not real mx browns. Also, a lot of boards have backlight failure in the first few weeks after purchase. Thoughts? How are you keys and backlight? How do these browns stack up to other browns you've tried?

I have had no back light failure at all on it. Compare to other Browns though, the main difference I can tell would be the use of o-rings thumb.gif which may be why some people consider them 'squishy' but they feel like normal Browns to me. Back lighting wise, it's quite bright and i know logitech has had a past of bad back lighting but from what I can tell this didn't carry over to the g710+. It would appear they made a very high quality mechanical keyboard biggrin.gif

Happy to help

The switches on the G710+ are MX Browns and they feel the same as other keyboards...

BUT, Logitech does do a good job of silencing the keys...It is more than just their o-rings..but whatever they have done, it is definitely quiet compared to other Cherry MX Browns..

The keyboard itself is fine..it isn't too big for a FULL keyboard with Macro keys..but what I didn't like was that the keys were slick..the WASD keys had a slightly different feel to them.....

Except for the LED problem some people have had, it is probably one of the better gaming keyboards..especially if the keycap feel doesn't bother you.

I'd probably wait for the WASDv2 Keyboard if you're looking at getting that....it'll cost you a bit more but it'll be solid..great reputation and made by someone that is very aware of what people in the mechanical keyboard community want...

I also own a G710+ and I'm very happy with it. I've been using it for four months or so and have had no problems whatsoever. I haven't tried other keyboards featuring MX Brown switches, but I view suggestions that they are not "real MX Brown keys" solely due to the way they feel quite far-fetched. "Feel" is entirely subjective. I suspect the dampening "O" rings are the reason for the "squishy" feeling though they don't feel that way to me. Personally, I'm glad those are included. The keyboard isn't silent, but it's not annoyingly loud. If it didn't come with them, I'd have bought as set of "O" rings long ago.

FYI - all full-size keys on the G710+ use mechanical switches, but the few small keys ("G" Key banks, backlighting adjustment & media) are rubber domed. That's the case with all mechanical keyboards AFAIK. I can't think of one which uses mechanical switches for media and other incidental controls. Despite being rubber domed, those controls on the G710+ feel quite solid - as good or better than the rubber dome keys on previous keyboards I've owned. The dedicated media controls are great (especially the volume wheel), and much better than medial control via "FN+other" combo shifts. Backlighting is even throughout. Overall, the keyboard seems solid and well built (as it should for the price). JMO, but unless you really want to customize the board (incl. different switches), I don't see a reason to consider the WASD when you compare its price & features to the G710+. However, if for some reason you just don't like Logitech, I suggest you consider the Nighthawk X9 from MaxKeyboards as well as WASD.

If you can, try waiting a month for the WASD v2.

What are the MaxKeyboards like? I've seen them listed in a local shop here in Australia recently. Are they of good quality?

And where can you buy o-rings from?
